Does Stanza run on 64-bit Macintosh?

As of Stanza 1.0.0 beta 18, Stanza Desktop does run on 64-bit Macintosh systems, including Snow Leopard.

Won't launch on Snow leopard

Hi,

I had been using stanza on leopard without problem, but after upgrading to snow leopard I can't get the program to run. I guessed this was down to not being compatible, so I deleted it and downloaded the latest version from the site.

Now when I try to run it, I get a pop up box saying that 64 bit operating systems are not supported, yet the FAQ's say that it is. The app then hangs and I have to force quit the app in order for it to close.

Any idea how I fix this? I've tried running with rosetta and that doesn't help and i'm running all the latest updates from apple.

in console, this is what comes up when I launch the app.

presumably this is a problem with Java on my machine? I'm on a 2007 MacBook. Help!

try calibre instead of Stanza Desktop

I have a MacBook with the intel chip & have no problem running Stanza Desktop.

But the same functionality exists in calibre http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/download_osx so you might give that a try.

You do have to tweak the Stanza app as described in the calibre preferences.

64-bit compatibility

Using Stanza on a Intel Core 2 Duo Macintosh, I might "have problems". Those "problems" are specific and limited (such as the occasional crash or misformatting), or are recurrent and widespread, rendering the application unusable?

64 Bit Support

I may be pointing out the obvious, but it's been rather difficult to buy a non-64bit Mac for a while. Can someone update the FAQ with an update as to when Stanza will support 64 bit Macs.

And that captcha system stinks...

64bit

I think the G5 is a 64bit processor.

Erm... why, for heaven's sake?

I really don't want to appear rude, the iPhone app is great. But why on earth won't the desktop app work on an up to date MacBook (and probably most other up to date Macs)? Since I got mine a few months back I've installed all sorts of apps (mostly free/open source, and some of which run using Rosetta which aren't even compiled for Intel) and never come across one that won't work on 64-bit processors. Apps that won't work on Leopard or which are so old they need the classic stuff which isn't in Leopard, yes. But processor incompatibilities, no. This is a real downer and making me consider an alternative reader program.

Well, it does work after all...

Having written the above comment, I then saw Spad's saying it worked on his MBP. So I decided to try it out anyway. And lo and behold it's fine so far, I've happily transferred books to my iPhone and displayed them on my MacBook. So apologies for going off on one.

One thought, though: it might be a good idea to change your FAQ page so that you link to comments and then add comments from the comments page. I know you can do that by clicking the FAQ title, but I found that out *after* I'd added my comment, just as I didn't see Spad's comment till after I'd posted.

Stanza on 64-bit Macs

Perhaps this has been covered already, but Stanza runs fine on my MBPro with a 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo cpu.
