21 Cool iPhone Apps - Stanza

Stanza 3.0 Now Available

I am happy to announce the release of Stanza 3 to the iTunes App Store. Among many other improvements, this release brings a native optimized version for the Apple iPad!

Other Stanza 3.0 improvements include:

• PDF, DjVu, and Comic Book Archive support
• Turkish & Bulgarian translations
• Many, many bug fixes

In addition, the following new features are available for devices running iPhoneOS 3.2 and higher (currently, iPhone OS 3.2 is only available for the iPad):

• Transfer books to & from your desktop PC by iTunes by dragging files into the "Stanza Documents" part of the "File Sharing" section at the bottom of the "Apps" tab that appears when you select your iPad from the "Devices" list in iTunes
• Open books directly from web pages and e-mail attachments

We hope you enjoy this new release as much as we enjoyed creating it! As always, Stanza is available for free from the iTunes App Store.

Cool! I want those new

Cool! I want those new features of this Apple iPad. Many individuals are outraged the GM gave Armando Galarrage a corvette being a prize for throwing a excellent game that was referred to as wrong. Sense GM still hasn't paid back their bailout cash, many are outraged by this gesture. Especially when they would must take out a particular loan to ever afford a auto like this. My response to people who are upset, stop whining. The publicity they got for this $53,000 was worth $9 million. You are able to look at it's GM saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in publicity expenditures by spending $53,000 instead. Individuals complaining also fail to realize that this stunt could bring in a good deal more company for GM, causing them for making more money, and in turn paying off their debt quicker.

FONT SIZE

My wife is vision impaired and I bought her an iPad with the sole purpose to install this app for her to be able to read books. It was recommended on many low-vision sites and after trying it out in the store, it was the only one that increased the text size big enough for her to read. This last update limits the font size to a level that renders it useless. Thank you for the downgrade. Is there a way to uninstall the current release and go back to the one that actually works? If not, is there a way to get a refund on all of the books we purchased seeing as how your "improvements" make your product unusable? In the future, you might want to put a few minutes of thought into those with vision impairments before you make things "better".

How do I also Downgrade to the previous version

The new version is terrible, it hangs on a white screen, tells me the book I was reading last night is now an unsupported book format and hangs, resets my iphone, and when I do manage to get a book open after opening and closing the app the font is SO SMALL I cant read it with out zooming.
How do I download the previous version file, where can I find it please.

Thanks for the update, but fix the sync with Fictionwise

I had been using the iPhone version at 2x and was happy to see the update. However, when I purchased a new book from Fictionwise and went to My bookshelf to retrieve it, I can not log in. Not cool. I went back to my iPhone and was able to log on, but as I am tired of reading on a tiny cree, I did not download the book. Breaking basic functionality like this will drive people to Kindle even faster. I have requested a refund from Fictionwise and will probably buy it through the Kindle app. I prefer Stanza, but it needs to work!

Uhm...

...why don't you just download the book on your PC from Fictionwise, then drop it into the iPad using the File Sharing feature? Works like a dream. Sure, its an extra step, but these days I want that physical backup of the book file on my computer anyway...

What does "Comic Book Archive support" mean?

Since you're using the general term, does that say the new version supports all the formats (including the rare ones) that are listed in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_Book_Archive_file plus all the different image formats found? Or does Stanza only support a subset?

Hurray!!

This. Is. AWESOME!!

Like many I had feared that this day would never arrive. Thanks for the great surprise.

Great news. Can we have some

Great news. Can we have some instructions on -how- to transfer PDFs and Comic Book Archives onto an iPhone/iPod Touch?

PDF

The PDF feature would be super if I knew how to transfer one to my iPhone. I tried Calibre and Stanza desktop. No luck.

Thanks for the update, but ...

It's great to see iPad support, especially after being told that would never happen. I can now stop telling people to jailbreak and use FullForce in order to experience the best iDevice reader.

But ... as a long-time iPhone reader with certain preferences (iPhone status on for clock access, white-on-black reading theme), I have to say that the light-colored status bar is very annoying. I don't want to have to turn it off, but it's too bright/annoying when reading on a black background. Any chance that could get fixed in a future update?

Thanks again!

Thank you, thank you--keep up the development.

Ditto on the status bar. Needs to behave as it did.

Latest Stanza release

I have been looking forward to this ever since I got the iPad. Stanza is my favorite reader. I'd happily donate to it, just like I did to Calibre. I'm sure other people would donate too.

BUT this new release has broken Stanza (and maybe my phone)!

I updated the phone about 30 minutes ago, and open Stanza. It takes me to my last page read... all perfectly normal. Then I try to go forward and page, and it kicks me out of Stanza and then my phone goes to the Apple screen and won't either shut down or restart. It won't get recognized by iTunes. It won't recognize the synch cable (or at least it doesn't do the usual beep when it starts to charge). After about 10 minutes, the phone reboots. I check out a couple of other apps, and they are all fine. I reopen Stanza. It starts to load normally, I see the book list. I get ready to touch on "Now Reading" (I never get to touch it) and it goes back to the Apple screen. And, we're back to the synch cable not being recognized, the itunes not seeing the device... until about 10 minutes have passed. I have tried it three times.

I have a 32gb 3GS iphone. I have about 600 books in Stanza. I don't want to delete it and start over.

I'm afraid to do the same thing to the iPad. When will this be fixed?

Thanks,

Metra

I had the same problem too.

I had the same problem too. Is there anyway to restore the old version for the time being? or when will this fix???

3.0 crashed my ipod touch

Finally got my ipod touch - less than a month old - to restore - had to do the apple recovery and then reinstall everything etc after the 3.0 crashed it and it wouldnt boot or be recognised by itunes.
Metra - Plug in your ipod and start itunes manually.Yyou need to hold the On button and front button at the same time and count to at least 30 until itunnes pops up with a Recovery detected message - then follow the prompts.

Lexcycle, You might want to check this latest update - maybe consider separate apps for ipad and ipod.

re: 3.0 crashed my ipod touch

Thanks, ShelleyRae, I don't need to do that, thankfully.

Once the iPhone starts up, everything but Stanza works, including iTunes and charging... I think Stanza's got a memory leak or something -- If I just let it sit on the book list and don't touch the screen, it stays... but as soon as I try to do something it crashes. I wonder if it is trying to load all the books into memory or display the covers of all of them... after about 10 minutes it will come back up. But after doing this four times, I did notice that it also eats my wallpaper when this happens.

The first time it happened, though, I thought for sure it had bricked my phone.
