Problems with Password Protected PDF EBOOKS

I recently purchased a technical book from APRESS, which comes as a password protected PDF file. I want to load it into Stanza Desktop, then sync to my iPod Touch. I've read every relevant message I can find on this forum, but I just can't get it to work correctly. The sync is no problem. But the formatting is wrong in varying ways. I've tried using Calibre to convert the file to an EPUB. But Calibre complains, saying it won't handle DRM-protected files.

Custom PDF's are only opening the first page in Stanza

I have some custom pdf ebooks that I downloaded off the internet. When I open them in Stanza it only loads the first page of the pdf. If I transfer that to my iphone it works the same way there.
I can get .prc files to work but nothing else.
Any help?

Help With Calibre

I just started playing with Calibre to convert some of my PDFs for reading on my iPhone using Stanza. It works great, but I have one very large complaint. Calibre is putting a page break at the bottom of each actual PDF page. This is not convenient by any means. While doing this, it counts each page as a chapter and, as a result, it doesn't try to create a table of contents. I cannot skip from chapter to chapter using the TOC menu, and since each PDF page is only about 3 "Stanza pages" long I can't use the slider to navigate the book.

Java Error opening a PDF (java.lang.nullpointerexception

I just downloaded Stanza Desktop to test it with various file types, which reportedly it supports, including PDF. When I try to open a PDF, I receive a Java Script error: Java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried several approaches to creating the PDFs so that it should be readable by a number of readers (the text is text, not images, for example). I am running what I assume is the most recent version of Stanza Desktop (although the app shows no version number).

All books blank!

Hi!

I have a lot of ebooks in PDF (some in French) I want to move to my iPhone Stanza. But when I open these PDFs in Stanza desktop, the page is blank, just blank. These PDFs are text files, not images, so Stanza should be able to display them. But page after page is just BLANK. I can save them to other formats such as Kindle and the .azw files will show a reasonable size. Stanza is reading and handling these works but NOT DISPLAYING THE TEXT. Help! Does this latest release of Stanza Desktop work? I'm on OSX 10.4.10. Thanks.

What is the best size (height and width) for PDF ebooks ?

Hello and thanks in advance. ...

I am publishing some PDF ebooks, and I want my PDF ebooks to read well on the iPod using Stanza. I can make these PDF files in any size.

What would be the best size to use? ... 6" x 9" ? ... Smaller?

Thanks again ... ZTG

converting pdf files with Imagemagick

I a trying to download technical articles in pdf to my Kindle. Regular pdf's do not convert well. I am trying to use the Imagemagick command "convert" to convert the pdf files to bitmapped images, which look better. I use the command "convert -density 120x120 file.pdf fileout.pdf" The output looks OK in Preview or Adobe Reader, but when I open fileout.pdf in Stanza, only the first page is displayed. Has anybody had any experience with this approach?

I am running Stanza 1.0.0-beta13 on Mac OS X 10.4.11.
