Error downloading form stanza desktop to iPhone

I appretiate any help on the matter.

I have a lit file, converted to html with (abc amber lit converter), to epub (with stanza), to ereader (with stanza). i have opened each file with stanza desktop and gone with my iphone into stanza and into the shared book. i choose my computer, select the book, and click on download. in each and every case i get an error that reads the following:

import fails

failed to download and import 'book title': Unable to move book file '/var/mobile/Applications/BC19CB78-8c34-4128-9039-4A58D86B621/Documents/Downloads/download-0.explode'to '/var/mobile/Applications/BC19CB78-8c34-4128-9039-4A58D86B621/Documents/Downloads/download-0.explode': Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomainCode=513 UserInfo=0x494f20 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 513.)"

Now, i have taking the following actions:

1- Reinstalled bonjour services
2- Rebooted iPhone
3- Reinstalled Stanza
4- Tried with books previously downloaded to verify if new book the problem (the old books wont download now)

Any help on why it fails now, would be appretiated

Are you getting the exact

Are you getting the exact same error as mentioned in this thread, or is it something else? Have you looked at http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/how_to_get_books_onto_stanza_iphone for other ways to get your book onto Stanza iPhone?

Cocoa Error 513

I also encountered this problem. I have a jailbroken Iphone 2G running OS 2.2, and at the time I was experiencing the error I had 3GB free space.

I endeavoured to uninstall and reinstall Stanza, and I noticed that I using finder unable to delete the data repository in /var/mobile/Applications/BC19CB78-8c34-4128-9039-4A58D86B621/ (where Stanza was keeping my Library). Two files (var/mobile/Applications/BC19CB78-8c34-4128-9039-4A58D86B621/Documents/Library/2/2.explode and var/mobile/Applications/BC19CB78-8c34-4128-9039-4A58D86B621/Documents/Library/2/2.explode) would not delete, with OS X telling me they were still in use. A quick sojourn through my terminal and a well placed rm -r deleted these files, and let me reinstall stanza properly. Now, everything works perfectly.

I don't know what is causing this problem, but I hope this information helps you guys identify it.

(NOTE: Dear users: Do not go hacking about in your terminal, most especially with rm -r, if you don't know exactly what you're doing. You may brick your phone, and that would be sad.)

iPod Touch can't read book purchased from stanza.fictionwise.com

I purchased Salman Rushdie's The Enchantress of Florence on stanza.fictionwise.com and downloaded it to Stanza Desktop for Macintosh. It is a .pdb file.

When I try open it on the Desktop, I get the message "Stanza Desktop cannot read this eReader book. However, yoy can share this book with Stanza iPhone/iPod Touch from Stanza Desktop." This is to be expected, as I learned from FAQ.

When I try to share it with my iPod Touch, the iPod finds it on the Macintosh but when I try to download it, I get the error message: "Failed to download and import 'The Enchantress of Florence': The ebook file did not contain any date. It may be corrupt."

I downloaded the book it to my Desktop a second time, but got the same result.

Can anyone help?

There is probably just a

There is probably just a problem on your network that is preventing the transfer. Can you try downloading it the easy way, rather than trying to transfer it using Stanza Desktop? Here are the instructions:

1. Launch Stanza on your iPhone.
2. Go to Online Catalog->Fictionwise Book Store->My Bookshelf.
3. Log in with the email address and password you use to login to stanza.fictionwise.com
4. Tap the book you want to download, then blue Download button, then tap the big red Download button.
5. Now you will have to unlock your book by entering the name and credit card number you used to buy the book.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

Fixed It

Hey thank you very much this is what it did:

since i have no idea how to back up books already downloaded, what i did first was to create a backup (since i have like 80 books on the iphone):
1 i went to the root file (through winscp), /var/private/mobile/applications/"stanza directory" (it has a lot of numbers and letters)/documents/library/ and i
coppied all the directories under here to my cpu.
2 i uninstalled stanza on iphone
3 i reinstalled stanza on iphone
4 i uploaded through winscp all my old stanza books to same directory
5 i downloaded the new book i couldnt download before (and created new backup)

i know this is patch work and will probably get me in trouble soon enough, the reason i did the backup this way even though i have the books already in epub format, is that i have to change each book details (i thought it could only be done on iphone stanza and have learned that it can be done on the cpu) and that would take forever to download each book afterwards.

so my new question would be, is there an easier way to back up my stanza books on my iphone (i know it cant transfer files to pc, but could itunes pack up the app entirely)?

Thank you so much for the time spent to help me out

So uninstalling and

So uninstalling and reinstalling Stanza did the trick? That's great! I am glad you've backed everything up just case things go awry again. That Cocoa 513 error is pretty ominous-sounding.

iTunes does do an automatic backup of all application data during a sync, which includes books in Stanza, but this is only useful if you want to do a full restore of your phone, since the way iTunes stores the data is basically unusable for humans. We do, however, hope to implement a way to move files from Stanza iPhone to a computer via Stanza Desktop at some point in the future.

same error

Thank You For your help, and to your questions

1 same error on all books (actually i downloaded 1 succesful book, and when i tried with the second the error began, it hasnt stop failing since)
2 havent tried downloading a free book, but i did try downloading a book from 2 different computers (in 2 different dsl connectios, home and office) with
different os (first had vista, second had xp)
3 i reinstalled stanza desktop not iphone (actually im trying to reinstall on iphone)
4 i have more than 9 GB of free space
5 i have the newest version (iPhone 3g 2.2.1)
6 it is jailbroken, but it has never been an issue

Thanks for that

Thanks for that information.

You are right that jailbreaking shouldn't make a difference. Many people use Stanza on jailbroken phones without any problems, but having your phone jailbroken has given you the ability to alter, if only accidentally, your file system in some way that might be preventing Stanza (and other programs) from writing new data to your iPhone.

Can you try downloading a free book from the Online Catalog, like from Feedbooks or Project Gutenberg? It would be helpful to know what happens when you try to do that.

Also, let me know what happens when you uninstall and reinstall Stanza on your iPhone.

That is an error coming from

That is an error coming from the iPhone OS, rather than Stanza iPhone or Stanza Desktop. It has to do with your permissions for writing to the file system, I believe. Can you answer a few questions for me?

1. Do you get that same error message when you try to download your old books? Or are you just not able to download your old books for some other reason (e.g., you get an Empty Catalog error)?
2. What happens when you download a free book from the Online Catalog?
3. When you say that you reinstalled Stanza, do you mean Stanza Desktop or Stanza iPhone?

And a few other general questions about your iPhone:

1. How full is your iPhone -- that is, how much space you do you have available?
2. What version of the iPhone operating system are you running?
3. Is your iPhone jailbroken?
