148apps.com BestAppEver: “Stanza has redefined how everyone thinks about reading on a mobile device.”
2008 Best Free App

I love this program-a couple questions.

Thanks for this program-so far I am loving it. I have been able to both read books from your site, and transfer my own books from my MacBook to my iPhone with no problems.

Surprisingly, I've had the most success with .lit formatted books, and the least success with .pdf formatted books, esp. considering .PDF is basically Apple's native format, and .LIT is what was (until now :p ) a Microsoft proprietary format. Not sure how you guys got Stanza to read .LIT files, but you did great.

Questions:
1) Does/will Stanza have a "native" format? Will the desktop version ever have a library/storage like iTunes for books?
2) Any chance of Stanza getting a few editing controls on the desktop version? Search and replace, or at least cut/paste?
3) Batch loading? 16G iPhones have tons of storage to spare :D

Again, thanks for a great program. I knew eBook readers would show up on the iPhone, just didn't expect such a great one to show up so quickly.

1a. The primary format we support is Open eBook (a.k.a. epub). We are generally supporters of open standards, and Open eBook is a very good book format.
1b. We are considering expanding Stanza into a more holistic library management application, but we do not have any concrete timeframe in place yet for it.

2. Probably not. Stanza was never designed to be a content editor (although we do plan on allowing the editing of metadata, such as the title and author, in the near future). For editing content, we recommend loading your eBook into Stanza, then having it export into some editor-friendly format (like HTML, Plain Text, RTF, or Microsoft Word), in which case you can make whatever edits you want and then re-import it into Stanza.

3. We are considering solutions for loading larger libraries. Stanza Desktop has no built-in maximum number of documents that it can have open at once, but realistically you are limited to a few dozen open documents at one time.

As for the PDF issues, we are aware of the (sometimes severe) limitations, and we discuss them at:

http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/pdf_issues

We do hope to improve support in the future, but for the time being, Stanza can only read PDFs with the most basic of formatting.
