I am trying out Stanza on my mac and though the program looks nice, it acts very weird when I open a normal pdf or a rtf file. Almost in every line, there are characters in words missing, seems to be mostly when they are used double, like in the word "woord", now it is written as "word", this happens all the time. The pdf file opens normally in acrobat reader. This is the same case when I open this file in rtf fformat in Stanza.
an example how it should be:
HOOFDSTUK EEN, EEN ZWARE DAG
and how Stanze shows it:
HOFDSTUK EN, EN ZWARE DAG
why is this?
(This book is written by me in Word, and converted into pdf in acrobat professional)

Very strange bug in Stanza
I experience the same, but only with SOME pdfs.bkurm
André - I have the same issue
André - I have the same issue too. I'm going from Word, print/save as PDF, then importing the PDF into Stanza. Just like you, I see words like EFFECT become EFECT. This is all on a Mac running 10.5.8.
Also, new lines seem to be ignored.
Does anyone have a workaround?
This is a shame a Stanza is the perfect tool for me otherwise!
Steven.
Save as rtf or html from
Save as rtf or html from Word, then import. PDF is the worst ebook format ever.
If you are starting from
If you are starting from word, then the best format is typically to save it as "Web Page (filtered" which should sve it as HTML with all Word specific tags removed. That tends to the best start for conversion to another format (particularily if you use Calibre rather than Staza Desktop to do the conversion).
thanks
Thanks - saving as HTML then converting to epub using Calibre seems to be the way to maintain most formatting information (bold, italic, paragraphs all seem to survive). Now all I need to do is figure out how to put a collection of epub files on my web site that Stanza on my iPod Touch will recognise...
Thanks again!
If you want to put files on
If you want to put files on your web site for Stanza use then look at the Calibre2OPDS (used to be CalibreDBXtractor) program. It is set as a sticky on the Calibre forum. This replaces my original Calibre2Web program with a Java version that is portable and also higher function.
