When I export an HTML file as Kindle format, it appears garbled on my Kindle. The entry shows in the list of books, but when I open it the characters are all squares.
It shows normally in the Stanza desktop viewer.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but can't seem to figure it out.

Hey Anonymous -- are you
Hey Anonymous -- are you using a Kindle 2? Thanks!
Kindle2
Yes, I'm using a Kindle2 (and a Mac for the Stanza app). Unfortunately, Calibre stinks even worse. It crashes when I attempt to convert/open an html file...
There might be something new
There might be something new with Kindle 2 that makes this happen. Can you try opening the HTML file in a browser, and then copying and pasting the text into a text file, and then converting that text file to .azw using Stanza Desktop? Does that work any better?
text file
Well, I can send .txt files directly to the Kindle2 via USB, so Stanza isn't needed in that situation. I was just hoping to find something on the Mac that would be able to do the same with HTML files as the Kindle doesn't deal with them natively.
When I run windows using VMware Fusion on the Mac I am able to use Mobipocket creator on the PC to do this HTML->prc conversion just fine.
If you want to send me the
If you want to send me the HTML file, I can have a look. It might just be that you need to change a tag for character encoding in the HTML to make it work.
You might want to try using
You might want to try using Calibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/) to do such conversions?
Calibre now officially supports the Kindle and Kindle 2 and should handle conversions from HTML as standard.
The last time I looked at
The last time I looked at Calibre it was only lrf and epub. Thanks for that information, itimpi.
Calibre has now added mobi
Calibre has now added mobi format support integrated into the GUI, and LIT format via the command line tools.
