I'm using a Mac Intel laptop with OS 10.4.8 and the new Stanza desktop software v. 1 beta 16 and have attempted to download 2 books in pdb format from my desktop opened with Stanza program to my 32Gb. iTouch with software 2.2.1 and am getting an "Catalog Error" timed out - no shared books . . . even though my Stanza desktop app. states these books can be shared using Stanza Desktop. I have made sure both devices are using the same wireless network and have turned off the firewall. What's the problem???? 2-2-09 Judy
Stanza Desktop was smart
Stanza Desktop was smart enough to detect my chapters, marked only by forced page breaks and centered boldfaceNumber, Stanza wasn’t perfect—it failed to pick up the italics in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,I also tested Stanza with a Mobilepocket book, a copy of Dickens’ Bleak house hundreds of thousands of words long, and found that importation on the desktop was not instant but acceptably fast.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard Firewall
Why does it has to be disabled for Stanza Desktop good functioning ?
Rather annoying !
Snow Leopard's changes to the
Snow Leopard's changes to the firewall user interface do appear to have stopped it from being able to allow connections into Stanza Desktop. We're still looking for a solution, but for the time being, the only recourse is to disable the firewall or else use one of the alternative methods for sharing (such as http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/how_to_get_books_onto_stanza_iphone#sharing_...).
Can you let me know which of
Can you let me know which of these things is happening:
You tap on Shared Books, but you never see "Books on My Computer"?
OR
You do see "Books on My Computer" and you tap on it, but then you never see any books?
Also, did you make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow Anonymous Sharing"? Let me know. Thanks!
Problem with trans. book from Stanza Desktop to iTouch
Hi Emily -
I see books on my computer but I never see any books listed . . . also didn't know "allow anon. sharing" also had to be checked so I did that and am still getting a (Catalog Error - timed out - no shared books) message. Judy
"Allow Anonymous Sharing"
"Allow Anonymous Sharing" doesn't have to be checked, but it makes it easier for me to diagnose the problem. Thanks for trying that out.
This usually means that there is some other firewall or security setting on your computer or router that you need to disable. I assume you went to System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall, and made sure that it says "Start" rather than "Stop". Is that correct? Check again to make sure that it's off, i.e., that it says "Start" rather than "Stop".
Also, make sure any extra security settings on your router are turned down or turned off.
Finally, you should to delete your Stanza Desktop preferences, since you might have accidentally blocked your phone. Close Stanza, then open the Finder. Navigate to your Home folder, then to "Library" and then "Preferences". Then delete the files named "stanza.container.swt.plist" and "stanza.plist". Relaunch Stanza, open a file, and try sharing again.
Unable to download book on desktop - allow anon sharing -
Hi Again Emily -
I tried all the suggestions you've given and still get the same "catalog error" message - no shared books. I'm using Apple Time Capsule with Airport Express. 2-4-09 Judy
Do you have any additional
These usually only happens when there is some extra security on your computers. Do you have any additional virus protection or other security-related programs (like Internet Cleanup or MacScan) that you use in addition to the built-in Mac firewall? Are you sure that all of your security settings on your router are turned down or turned off?
Do you happen to have turned on a VPN, such as one you would use to connect to your work or school?
Have you tried rebooting both your iPhone and your computer?
Hallelujah!!!
I finally was able to transfer a book from Stanza desktop to my iTouch. I had to chg my firewall config. in Intego as well as disable my Mac firewall. Thanks Emily . . . hopefully I'll remember how to do this the next time I want to load a book. ;) Judy
Apple iPod Touch support vs Pasen iTouch - Which do you own?
The problem might be that you are not using an Apple product. The iTouch is a product made by Pasen, and is a ripoff of the iPod Touch. You might want to check to make sure that you are using an iPod Touch and not an iTouch. Here's more info on the iTouch from Pasen:

Worked for me; deleted the prefs first, but the most important was definitely turning off the firewall; thanks!

hye.i would like to ask.i have the "shared book".my computer;s name is there.but still no books.i turn on the anonymous sharing.and im using windows xp.thx
In general, this means that
In general, this means that you have some kind of extra security on your computer or router. In Windows, you might also have to fiddle around with the access controls, in addition to turning off your firewall. If you don't have access to your router, perhaps because you are using a public wifi spot or are using a router at school, you might not be able to resolve this problem.
There is another way to transfer books. You can upload them to a website and download them to your iPhone. Please check out the section on uploading to bookworm.threepress.org in this FAQ:
