I have been experimenting using Stanza. I used FETCH NEWS to download several items from the list of publications they offer. I spent the most time on the Christian Science Monitor. I used Calibre to convert the file to .epub format. As you have said, it supports formatting than Stanza Desktop does, when viewed with Calibre's built-in viewer.
If I viewed the .epub document it created in Stanza Desktop, it showed basically all of it, though it was not as pretty. But the text was there. When I copied it to my ipod touch 2G running 2.2 framework, it DID NOT copy all of it. Instead, I copied the top 2 levels, which showed the titles of the articles (as links) and a short paragraph about each story. When you click on any of the title links, it goes to a page called "null". Subsequent pages are all "null". So it is not exporting the 3rd level - story. i.e. TITLE -> DESCRIPTION -> STORY.
So how to take advantage of Calibre? Can you see the better formatting when viewing the Calibre-created .epub document on an iphone/ipod touch? If yes, how? Thanks.
Also using Calibre w/Stanza on iPhone 3GS
I'm having a similar problem with a prc book converted into epub. (please excuse if I don't use all the correct technical terms. I know how to do what I do, sometimes with my techie daughter's help, but not always the correct terms to describe it without going and looking it up). A similar thing happened to me with a prc book converted to epub by Calibre. It appeared to wrap text fine on the desktop viewer in Calibre but when downloaded into my to Stanza on my iPhone 3GS the bottom third or so of every page was cut off regardless of what size font was used. This only happened on 1 of 13 prc books I converted so the success was good and all 40 some lit books converted successfully.
Sometimes the exported
Sometimes the exported margins can mess with Stanza's screen size. If you open Stanza's settings (by tapping the gears button in the toolbar that appears when you tap the center of a book page) and turn off "Display Styles", does it still exhibit the problem?

I am going to email you so
I am going to email you so you can email me back with the epub file you are having trouble with. In the meantime, you might want to ask Calibre if they have heard of this problem before. Thanks!
