When trying to go to Shared books on my iphone it says 'Searching' but doesnt find the books on my WinXP machine.
It did work briefly and I was able to transfer a couple of PDF's but now I still cant connect to Shared books on my computer.
I have read what others have said about this problem but havent seen anything that has helped yet.
I am definitely on own wireless network
Updated Itunes and Bonjour
Uninstalled and reinstalled Bonjour
have opened up port 9562 on my router
Have tried resetting iphone, router and PC
Have disabled the firewall
Have uninstalled and reinstalled Stanza on the desktop
Have enabled Sharing and Allow Anonymous Sharing on the desktop
AirSharing works perfectly with Bonjour. Stanza on the desktop however sometimes tells me I have to go to the webpage and download/install bonjour even though I already have the latest version! Stanza is the better reader, if only I could get the thing to work!! For the moment Ill stick with AirSharing for reading my PDF's
Any ideas on how to fix these issues??
cheers
iPhone 16GB 3G v2.0.2 NOT Jailbroken (Yet!)
Windows XP SP2
that happend to me once (ipod touch 2 gen)
but the Stanza book transfer works again after the internet was accidentally disconnected from the desktop computer.
right, gotcha on the
right, gotcha on the airsharing using a different method, but Im using a fairly standard wireless-n linksys router, brand new with the only settings ive changed being the disabling of firewall and opening up a port. If it doesnt work on a well-known router as this what would it work on?
im not keen on the extra steps involved every time i want to transfer ebooks. ill stick to the simplicity of airsharing for the moment. From the couple of books stanza managed to transfer when it works, i like it much better. its a shame it doesnt work further than that
cheers
You can always try this
You can always try this method of sharing books between Stanza Desktop and Stanza iPhone, which bypasses the router. There are instructions in the link below for doing this in Mac OS X, but since you seem pretty savvy, you can probably figure out how to do the equivalent thing in XP:

The vast majority of users don't run into problems with sharing. If you suddenly aren't able to do it, it's likely that something on your computer or router has changed. Have you tried sharing iTunes libraries with another computer on your wifi network recently? Did it work before? Does that work now while sharing with Stanza does not?
By the way, the uploading/downloading option I described isn't actually very much trouble at all. It just seems complicated because we break it up into many steps when we describe it so that people will follow every step.
Good luck!
Air Sharing doesn't use the
Air Sharing doesn't use the same methods for transferring documents as Stanza does.
Sometimes the router is causing the problem by having a firewall or some other kind of security setting that is hard or impossible to turn off. In these cases, there's not much you (or we) can do.
There is another way of getting epub books from your computer to your iPhone, and it's not that complicated. Try this:
On your computer:
1.Convert your book to epub using Stanza Desktop.
2. Go to http://bookworm.threepress.org/, and create an account for yourself.
3. Upload your book to your new account at http://bookworm.threepress.org/.
On your iPhone
1. Launch Safari.
2. Go to http://bookworm.threepress.org/ in Safari on your iPhone and sign in using the account you created above.
3. Select the arrow button under Read in Stanza.
4. This will launch Stanza in the Direct Downloads screen. Your book will appear, though it might have a long name with numbers with a URL underneath. Don't worry -- it really is your book.
5. Tap on your book. If Stanza asks you whether you want to download the book, tap Download. The book will open, and it will appear in the categories on the main Library page.
Update: Some person on the forum recommended connecting your computer to your wireless router directly with an ethernet cable when you want to share books. I don't know why this would help, and we haven't been able to test this, but it's worth a try.
