crashing on iphone

Hi,

I successfully downloaded app and about eight books (from fictionwise) onto my iphone over the last few days. I have read 7 of the books (starting and stopping no problem) and was in the middle of reading the 8th. It was working just fine, then I turned my phone off to charge it and when I went to go back to the book, i hit the "Stanza" app icon and all I get is the "shell" of the main page, i.e. no writing, just the lines and the tool icon and the plus icon. It stays for not quit a second then crashes back to the Iphone home page. How do I rectify it? Do I need to trash this application and re-load. If I do that will I losse the downloads I already paid for?

Thank you for your help.
Suzanne

First try totally rebooting

First try totally rebooting the iPhone again. Make sure that doesn't resolve your problem.

Did you buy your books using Stanza or Fictionwise.com or eReader.com? If so, then you can delete and re-install Stanza on your iPhone, and then you can re-download your purchased books to My Bookshelf. You will probably have to re-enter your account information to view your bookshelf and your credit card number to unlock your books, but it should work without a problem.

Before you delete Stanza, however, go to stanza.fictionwise.com, and log in with the information you used to buy your books in Stanza. Select Bookshelf and make sure your books are there. Similarly, if you bought your books from www.Fictionwise.com or eReader.com, go there and make sure all your books are in Bookshelf there.

If you bought your books elsewhere, download them to your computer so that you have a copy there. After you reinstall Stanza on your iPhone, you can upload your books to a website, and then download them to Stanza on your iPhone. See this FAQ for more information about how to transfer books from your computer to your iPhone:

Stanza & iPhone - direct download of .pdb format?

Hi Everyone,

Just loaded Stanza 1.7 onto my iPhone and have purchased two contemporary books from Fictionwise (.pdb format). When I receive my confirmation email and try to download the books directly onto my iPhone, I get an error message stating that Safari cannot download the item.

Is it possible to download purchased books directly onto the iPhone, or must I use the Stanza Desktop and then share them to the iPhone?

Thanks in advance!

Dirk

Following the link in your

Following the link in your email won't work. Go to My Bookshelf in the Fictionwise Book Store in Stanza on your iPhone.

For details, look in the FAQ on this website for "how to buy Fictionwise books" or read "how to use the Fictionwise store" in the Fictionwise Book Store in Stanza on your iPhone.

Can you provide some more

Can you provide some more details?

1. Are you trying to download your own books or books you have purchased?
2. Are they in the right format (i.e., eReader or epub)?
3. Do they have DRM?
4. What does it do when it crashes? Does it hang? Does it go back to the main iPhone screen?

Thanks.

Q. Are you trying to download

Q. Are you trying to download your own books or books you have purchased?
A. Free books from the internet
Example (Russian translation of public domain book Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) by Jerome K. Jerome) http://www.zone4iphone.ru/books/?b=3lod.epub

Q. Are they in the right format (i.e., eReader or epub)?
A. epub format
There are no many Russian books in epub format on the internet. Do you have any title I can try to ensure that it is not specific to the publisher?

Q. Do they have DRM?
A. I don't think so.

Q. What does it do when it crashes? Does it hang? Does it go back to the main iPhone screen?
A. It goes back to the main iPhone screen

i actually just tried to

i actually just tried to download that very book, and it worked perfectly. I was able to view the book, and Stanza never crashed.

If you are not using the most recently version of Stanza for the iPhone (1.7), can you try upgrading to see if that helps? Also try rebooting your iPhone. That may help.

Thank you

I've done 2 things and I am not sure which of them helped:
1. I removed Stanza, turned off iPhone. Then I turned it on and installed Stanza again. I am able to download books now.
2. I have also replaced my wireless access point with a new one. The old wireless access point did not provide stable wireless connection. Previously when I tried to download the catalog of russian books Stanza notified me that the catalog is empty. I have no problem with the catalog downloading now. So it looks to me that Stanza can have possible issue with handling lost connection exceptions during downloading.

I am glad it's working for

I am glad it's working for you. Perhaps you hadn't yet upgraded to the most recent version of Stanza (1.7), and so uninstalling and reinstalling Stanza got you the latest version.

No. I have checked Stanza

No. I have checked Stanza before unistalling it. It was the recent 1.7 version.
