Potentially stupid newbie question

OK, I really want to get Shakespeare plays and read them via Stanza. Downloaded a couple of plays in .epub format, but when they're displayed, they take away the line breaks. I can get used to that, but I'd rather not. Do I have any options?

There are no stupid questions!

When you say that Stanza takes away the line breaks, do you mean that the entire play is displayed as one large blob of text? If so, that would be surprising. Can you let us know where you found the ePub file, so we can take a look?

In the meantime, you might want to check out the Project Gutenberg list of Shakespeare's plays:

http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/s#a65

The ones I've testes (just the plain text file downloads) display fine for me in Stanza.

Thank you for your help! Still a little puzzled

I didn't know I could just get plain text versions, from Gutenberg, and have them read OK. Duh.

In any case, the original question pertained to what I got from the Stanza site itself, in .epub format. Specifically, for example, http://www.lexcycle.com/library/Shakespeare_William/A_Midsummer_Nights_D...

So it's not ALL one large blob of text, but each character's speech IS one big blob (i.e., paragraph) , as opposed to being separated by lines. So, for example, the famous speech by the Fairy in Midsummer Night's Dream, is rendered as "FAIRY Over hill, over dale, Thorough bush, thorough brier, Over park, over pale, Thorough flood, thorough fire, I do wander everywhere, Swifter than the moon’s sphere; And I serve the fairy queen, To dew her orbs upon the green. The cowslips tall her pensioners be: In their gold coats spots you see; Those be rubies, fairy favours, In those freckles live their savours; I must go seek some dewdrops here, And hang a pearl in every cowslip’s ear. ", instead of as 10-15 lines of verse. It looks fine when I load the Gutenberg version.

Thanks again,
Peter

There have been some problems

There have been some problems with formatting on some of the classics we are hosting on lexcycle.com, so that may be the problem. You might want to look in the "Free Books by Feedbooks" item in the online catalog and look through the plays there. I believe they have everything by Shakespeare, although I can't guarantee it. And their content tends to be considerably better formatted than the ones that we have on lexcycle.com.
