Hi there,
I was pleased to see that there was a new beta available. Eagerly downloaded, installed and instantly started, only to find out, that any kind of text formatting (such as bold type and italics) is still not interpreted. It has been mentioned numerous times here in the forum that this is a feature that's on your to-do list, but I am amazed to see that you still have not implemented this imporant feature.
Calibre, intriguing, but I ran into a glitch!
Oddly, when I used Calibre to transfer over RTF docs, they displayed fine in the Stanza Desktop, but when I try viewing the docs on the iPod, only the first page of text shows. The other pages are blank! I had to turn off Display Styles for the text to show up. Weird, eh?
I was hoping to transfer over bold, italics, but couldn't even get the text display!
Any suggestions or tips on this one?
By the way, I find SD quite spiffy to use... Before I found Calibre, I even set up a macro to open each of my RTF files and give them a title in the meta data in SD (just copied the file name and pasted it into the info screen). Works like a charm and means the docs transfer over to the iPod Touch with a title and not Unknown! And it's not even too bad having to transfer files one at a time because multiple files can be opened in one fell swoop. However, having to take 3 taps to download each one to the IPT does get tiring after a while... maybe there'll be a batch download option in the future in Stanza app!
Calibre with .rtf dox
I had the same problem with "null" pages, except for the first page. Get the latest version of Calibre - 0.4.127 (for the Mac). It solves that problem.
I used Calibre with .pdf docs and using their NEWS feature. If you have a problem importing .rtf files, report that, with as much detail as possible, to the developer. I registered at the Calibre site, and then created a new ticket. He was very responsive and there was a bug fix the next day. Calibre was originally developed for the Sony ebook reader and users need to send feedback to make it a great tool for use with Stanza.
good to hear
Thanks for confirming that formatted text did not just drop out of your to-do list :)
I'll give Calibre another try, I believe I tried it a while back and ran into major problems
Yes, it's something we're
Yes, it's something we're working on.
Until we have styles supported in Stanza Desktop conversion, there is a work-around. You can use a third-party ebook management program called Calibre, available for free here:
http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/
You can use Calibre to convert your files to epub format. When you open these newly-made epub files in Stanza Desktop, styles should be preserved, though they will not be displayed until you transfer the files to Stanza iPhone. Good luck!
