Hi
I have been running Stanza in its various beta versions on my Apple PowerPC and on my iPhone 3G and have been extremely happy with it, but one of my real bugbears in that of bookmarks.
I know I can set them in both the iphone and Desktop versions, but you cannot transfer them with the desktop version when it goes to the iphone, and this really frustrating if you are reading a really long book or document and want to transfer it from the desktop to carry on reading it on the iphone.
It might not be so bad if you could word search, but that is limited to a single chapter at a time, and again if you have many chapters it becomes completely impossible to find your place.
A large percentage of my books / documents are Microsoft Word (2004 for Mac ver) which i convert into pdf files and then import into Stanza ~ This is because Stanza puts loads of obscure symbols into word docs when transferred into stanza, it also removes any image i put at the beginning so it is best in pdf format.
This lets me put in a cover image and also does not puts extraneous symbols in the text.
But no matter what hyper-links I put into word documents, stanza does not keep them when ported over from the desktop to the iphone versions.
Are their no ways to put hypertext links in, or at least keep any books marks that are made in the desktop version of Stanza, or Word /pdf docs so that they can be transferred across to the iphone?
Bookmark sharing is a feature
Bookmark sharing is a feature we'd like to include in future versions of the software. We also plan to have a better, more comprehensive search function in future versions of Stanza iPhone.
There is one approach that might possibly preserve hyperlinks in your documents when you view them Stanza. This is a little cumbersome, but you can give it a try:
1. Open the Word file that has the hypertext links in Word, and save it as HTML, rather than pdf.
2. Get the freely-available third-party ebook management software Calibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/).
3. Open your new HTML file in Calibre, and export it in ePub format.
4. Open that new ePub file in Stanza Desktop.
5. Transfer that version of the file to your iPhone.
Let us know if that works.
