I successfully logged into eReader from iPhone Stanza. It showed me the three books I have in my eReader account. When I try to download any of the three, I get this message:
Import Failed
Failed to download and import 'Vagabonding': The ebook file did not contain any data.
It may be corrupt: /var/mobile/Applications/159432C-.../Documents/Downloads/download-4
I slightly abbreviated the message above. The iPhone eReader app has no problem reading any of the three.
Bug?
Cannot download Personal Content
I tried to download eBooks from My Bookshelf in Fictionwise to my iPhone and has been prompted by my iPhone to enter my name and credit card number. I enter the information exactly as in my Account but the attempts failed.
I also tried to use the Stanza Desktop route and connect both my Mac and iPhone to the same wireless network. My iPhone sees my Mac and the eBook but it still fails to download when I complete the name and credit card information. What went wrong?
If the download is failing at
If the download is failing at the point where you enter your name and credit card, then there might have been a problem with the encryption of the book. You should contact support@fictionwise.com.
While you wait for their reply, try opening your book with eReader, which another ebook reader available for free in the App Store. You should encounter the same problem there, but if you don't, let us know.
Doesn't contain contents
After upload my personal file to bookshelf, When I try to download my bookfile from bookshelf, System said "error, doesn't contain contents"
I don't know why.
Do you have any idea for this error
I wonder if the file you
I wonder if the file you uploaded was in the wrong format. Were you uploading files to your Bookshelf at one of these sites?
stanza.fictionwise.com OR
www.fictionwise.com OR
www.eReader.com
When you upload to those sites, your books must be in eReader format. Keep in mind that not all file with the pdb extension are in eReader format. They can also be Mobipocket, Palm Doc, and a variety of other formats that are not readable in Stanza iPhone.
If your books were not eReader format and don't have DRM protection, you can probably use Stanza Desktop to convert your files to ePub, the other format readable by Stanza iPhone. To transfer ePub files to Stanza iPhone, see the directions in this link for Sharing using Stanza Desktop, and Uploading to bookworm.threepress.org:

Seems like a developer could
Seems like a developer could cut down on forum traffic a lot by blocking out 15 minutes tomorrow to add a "Welcome to Stanza, please click here to load an ebook file." message to that initial window. :-)
Stanza won't open
I have Panther 10.4.11 installed and when I download Stanza it seems to install. However, when I try to open Stanza, I just get a blank page. I rebooted and still the same issue. Any ideas?
That is correct behavior.
That is correct behavior. It is waiting for you to do something like open an ebook.
Another title that fails
Another title in the can't-download-from-Fictionwise-catalog category: "Shakespeare After All" by Marjorie Garber. The little "working" icon spins and spins for hours. I can leave and come back and it's still spinning. It never stops till I explicitly cancel the download. (Using iPhone 3G with 2.2 OS.) Looking forward to getting this fixed ... that's really the last book in my Fictionwise / eReader library that I still need to download for Stanza.
Thank you for letting us know
Thank you for letting us know about the issue with this particular book. I am able to reproduce the problem, and I've let our engineers know about it. I'll post again when we have more information. Thanks!
In the meantime, you can read it in eReader, which is another another free e-book reader available in the App Store.
Downloads from eReader & Fictionwise
I have tried to download the following 2 books over the course of the last weekbut keep getting the same errors.
From eReader.com:
Import Failed
Failed to download and import 'Electronic Pocket Oxford English Dictionary': The ebook file did not contain any data. It may be corrupt: /var/mobile/Applications/86DBC9B6-3507-450C-8015-52C4D58EF845/Documents/Downloads/download-0
From Fictionwise.com
Import Failed
Failed to downlaod and import 'SevenDeadlyWonders_35702.pdb': Unable to translate 'SevenDeadlyWonders_35702.pdb' for import: Unable to parse OPF data from zip: (null)
Hopefully this information will allow you to sort out the problem.
Many thanks.
Thanks for letting us know
Thanks for letting us know about your problems with these titles. We are aware of problems with specific books, and we expect to have the known problems fixed in the next version of the software, which we hope Apple will be releasing soon.
Until the new version of Stanza is released, you should be able to read these two books in eReader, another free ebook reading program that's available for free in the App Store.
Downloads from eReader & Fictionwise
I have so far downloaded about 20 books from eReader and Fictionwise with no problems, still have another 10 or so to do. However I can't download the Electronic Pocket Oxford English Dictionary from eReader, any ideas?
We are aware of the issue
We are aware of the issue with the Electronic Pocket Oxford English Dictionary, and we hope to fix it in a future release.
Same Fails for Me
Same fails for me for eReader bookshelf. I'll await a fix and try the suggested workarounds. Thanks.
Books Don't Download
Bought 3 books, listed below and got this message on each when I tried to download from my bookshelf:
Import Failed
Failed to download and import: The ebook file did not contain any data.
It may be corrupt: /var/mobile/Applications/159432C-.../Documents/Downloads/download-4
Titles that failed to download:
The Burn Journals [Secure eReader (recommended)] by Brent
Runyon
Bleak House [eReader (PDB)] by Charles Dickens
The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes [Complete Sherlock Holmes
Collection #9] [eReader (PDB)] by Arthur Conan Doyle
How do I get my money back? This is not good. Thank you
Thanks for letting us know
Thanks for letting us know about these books.
Try downloading these books again, since this might be a temporary error.
If that fails, Can you try reading your books with another e-book reader called eReader, which is available for free in the App Store? Please let us know if that works.
If you still want your money back, even though you can read the books with eReader, feel free to get in touch with Fictionwise.
By the way, "Bleak House" and "The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes" are older titles and may be available for free in the Feedbooks Catalog in Stanza. You might want to look there if you'd like to read them in Stanza right away.
Fails here too
All my attempts to download from my ereader bookshelf fail with the data not found error. Thisis true for personal content books as well as purchased ones.
Ereader downloads and reads them with no problem
How many books have you
How many books have you tried? Does this happen with all the books you try to download? And can you let us know any of the titles of the books that fail?
I have tried all eight books.
I have tried all eight books.
3 books are in my personal content shelf and are pdbs from other bookstores. These are tropic of cancer, tropic of Capricorn and Gibraltar sun.
1 book is a free ereader one, ghost rider.
The other 4 are ones purchase from fictionwise a year ago. These are Antares dawn, Antares passage , Antares victory and Gibraltar earth.
It may be a Stanza bug, or it
It may be a Stanza bug, or it may be a temporary problem with eReader's "OTA" server. Are you trying to download the books by using the "eReader Bookshelf" online catalog, or are you downloading them by adding a new online catalog (with the "+" button on the "Online Catalog" page), and adding "mobile.ereader.com" as a new Web Page, and then downloading your books that way? We would be curious to know if this problem affects both of those acquisition methods.
If it does, can you let us know the titles of the other books and we will try to reproduce the problem? There are some known problems with loading certain books from eReader that we are fixing for the next release of Stanza.
Some books fail for me too
When I try adding books from the eReader Bookshelf, 100% of the books fails, with the "Error: Import Failed - Failed to download and import '${title}': The ebook file did not contain any data. It may be corrupt: /var/mobile/Applications/${hex string}/Documents/Downloads/download-0" error.
When I add books from the mobile.ereader.com online catalogue, most books load. Some have mangled TOC entries and some have no cover art (even though they do in the eReader iPhone app). The book "Running With The Demon" by Terry Brooks will not load at all via the mobile.ereader.com online catalogue; gives an error about "Failed to download and import '${filename}.pdb': Unable to translate '${filename}.pdb' for import: Unable to parse NCX data from zip: (null)"
Thanks for letting us know
Thanks for letting us know about this title. These sorts of errors should be resolved in our next version of Stanza, which we hope Apple will release very soon.
Addtional information
I was the original poster as anonymous. The books still do not work today the titles are:
The Mirriam-Webster Dictionary
Full-Blooded Fantasy: * Spellbinding Tales...
Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art...
The "Full-Blooded" one was a freebie used as a test, rather than a choice from personal taste ;-)
I tried adding "mobile.ereader.com" as you state above and I get:
Catalog Error
Error reading catalog data. Please try again later.
When I dismiss the error dialog, the underlying page shows, "Catalog is Empty"
Ed
Thank you very much for
Thank you very much for letting us know about these titles. Are the books working for you yet? If not, please let us know. These are the sorts of problems we expect will be fixed in the next release.
Similar experience
I had a similar experience. Most titles download from eReader OK, but I haven't successfully downloaded the Modern Library edition of The Comedies of William Shakespeare. I imagine this must be a larger-than-normal file, don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Using either approach to download -- the "+" web site download or the online catalog approach -- it crashes my iPhone (as in, the iPhone actually restarts from the Apple logo). Both attempts were made using wifi.
The connection to eReader is, by the way, a fantastic addition to the product. It simplifies my life no end. I have every confidence that the problem(s) will be worked out. So -- thank you!
Thanks for the info. We'll
Thanks for the info. We'll look into the problem with Shakespeare and try to get it fixed as soon as possible.
ereader download fails
I too have tried to download from the ereader bookshelf online catalog and have received the error message "Import failed..failed to downoad and import "Getting Things Done: The art of Stress-Free Productivity" for import: Unable to parse NCX data from zip: (null).
We do know of a problem with
We do know of a problem with the Getting Things Done title. We're working on a fix for that one; until we get a Stanza update out there that works around the problem, you can read the book in the eReader application.
appreciate your work...
just trying to get some idea as to an ETA on the next version release for iPhone.
Stanza has been updated since
Stanza has been updated since the previous reply to this post, so you should update to 1.7 if you haven't already. The next version, Stanza 1.8, should be released soon, but after we release it we have to wait for Apple to actually approve it, so it's impossible to say exactly when it will become available on the App Store.
