You can't download your

You can't download your Stanza by Fictionwise (eReader format) book to your iPhone using Safari. Here's how to get your book:

1. In Stanza, on your iPhone, go back to the Fictionwise Book Store in the Online Catalog.
2. Tap on "My Bookshelf" at the bottom of the Fictionwise Book Store screen.
3. The first time you you do this, you'll be asked to enter your Stanza by Fictionwise username and password that you created earlier.
4. Tap on the book you want to download.
5. Tap the blue "Download" button in the upper right corner.
6. The first time you do this, you'll be asked enter the credit card number you used to buy the book in order to unlock it.
7. Then just go to the main Stanza Library page, and you'll see your book in Recent Downloads and Titles.

I am delighted to hear that

I am delighted to hear that you got your book using both of those methods.

The info is on this site in the FAQ and in the "How to use the Fictionwise Store" section in the Fictionwise Book Store in Stanza on the iPhone, but we are working we are working with Fictionwise to clarify these instructions during the purchasing process and to work out the kinks in this new service.

Where are they?

Does anyone know where stanza stores the ebooks on the iphone?
Please post the location

thank you in advance

I'd say in the application's

I'd say in the application's own documents folder, somewhere in /var/mobile.
But I doubt that you can use this for anything other than backup-purpose, they won't be saved as a simple epub file.

Download Error

thank you all for your postings...
it took me long time to realize that not my ebooks were corrupted....
sadly enough, the download error in the personal content area still continues...is there anybody from stanza who will fix this...

Emily's picture

Hi there. I don't remember

Hi there. I don't remember what you posted before, so can you explain what error you got when downloading personal content? If I know the exact error message, I might be able to help you.

Can you also elaborate on what you mean about your ebooks (not?) being corrupted?

Finally, if you haven't already upgraded to Stanza 1.7, try doing so now. Maybe the problems you are encountering were fixed in the last release.

Thanks!

error-message

"the file contains no data" is the message i got, but it is readable on my computer and the book is about 0,5 mb...so i think my file is ok.

thank you for your help

Do you know what format your

Do you know what format your files are in? What program did you use to view them on your computer? Maybe they are not in a format that's readable by Stanza on the iPhone.

i converted the files to the

i converted the files to the *.pdb file format and i am able to read them with the eReader from Palm Digital Media on my desktop...
in the afternoon i will try again to download from my personal content...

Emily's picture

Pdb is just a file extension.

Pdb is just a file extension. It doesn't tell you what the file format is.

You probably converted the files to a .pdb format that is probably not readable by Stanza iPhone. It is probably the Palm Doc format, which is readable in eReader but not in Stanza.

To read your files on your iPhone using Stanza, convert them to epub format using Stanza Desktop, and use one of the methods shown here that are for epub files (and not for eReader files!):

Can-not download to my itouch-ipod

I just bought Leonard Suskind's book-Cosmic Landscape- and I can not read it on the computer or the ipod!!!!!

Please help- I have read all the procedures and implemented -regarding the transfer of the ereader format to the ipod-and it will NOT download!

After downloading and then uploading to my personal space on the site- all I get is error messages

This is frustrating

Attempting to Download, Instead Quits Stanza

I just purchased "New Market Wizards" book through Fictionwise. When I attempt to download from "My Bookshelf" it thinks for a while then quits Stanza to the desktop. Multiple attempts at this without success. Any ideas?

Here's an idea…

…read it in the eReader app until Stanza works the bugs out. :)

gibberish

Alright, this is my first attempt with this program. I am not a newby to downloading stuff, but my gosh nothing works! You try to download a book and you are directed to a website that says error 404. Then if you download it from your bookshelf it opens up as gibberish. I am only glad I downloaded two free books in this attempt, or else I would have been out of money.

It sounds like you might be

It sounds like you might be trying to load the book into Stanza Desktop, which does not currently support eReader files (although you can read the files on your desktop using the free eReader software from http://www.ereader.com/ereader/software/browse.htm). The eReader files are only currently support on Stanza for the iPhone or iPod Touch, and you can download any books you have purchased by going to the "My Bookshelf" entry in the "Fictionwise Book Store" item of Stanza iPhone's "Online Catalog".

All right, I went there and

All right, I went there and uploaded my personal content.

Now how do I retrieve it? When I go to "My Bookshelf" there's no link to download the personal content.

marc's picture

It does appear there is a

It does appear there is a problem downloading from the personal content section right now; we'll try to get that fixed as soon as possible.

Best get that fixed for

Best get that fixed for mobile.ereader.com and mobile.fictionwise.com's personal content sections, too, just in case people don't want to re-upload what they've got there.

Any other ways? I tried putting the file on a webserver and downloading it directly but that didn't work either.

marc's picture

What error did you get with

What error did you get with the webserver solution? There shouldn't be any problems with that.

"Failed to download and

"Failed to download and import '(filename).pdb': Unable to translate '(filename).pdb' for import: Unable to parse NCX data from zip: (null)"

I know it's a good PDB file, I've opened it in eReader, even via download from the same URL.

marc's picture

That could be one of our

That could be one of our current known bugs (which we expect to have fixed in an update shortly). We think it happens with PDB files that don't have any table of contents information. Have you experienced this problem with more than one book so far, or have you only tried the one book?

It has quite a lengthy table

It has quite a lengthy table of contents, actually, some of which is indented a level.

I've only tried the one book.

marc's picture

If you can let us know the

If you can let us know the title of the book, it might help us identify the problem. There is a known issue with books that very extensive tables of contents (as well as books with no TOC).

As for sharing personal content, can you try the new "eReader Bookshelf" entry in the Online Catalog? That should show any books you have uploaded to your eReader Personal Content page.

I have about a dozen books in

I have about a dozen books in my eReader shelf, all purchased from ereader.com within the last 6 months. 100% of them fail to download to my iPhone Stanza app with the "no data" error Message. All have TOC's of 10-30 entries.

A tale of three shelves

All right. I put a slightly different version of the e-book in each of my eReader, Fictionwise, and Stanza.Fictionwise personal bookshelves. And only the versions from the eReader and Stanza.Fictionwise shelves showed up. You really need to make sure to snag all three personal bookshelves if you're going to combine them that way, or the people who have stuff in their plain-Fictionwise personal bookshelf will get confused and annoyed.

Really, I fail to see the point of having separate Fictionwise and Stanza.Fictionwise stores at all. It's just going to confuse and annoy people.

Oh, and it still gave me the same zip, NCX, etc. error trying to import the book.

marc's picture

We have made it so the "My

We have made it so the "My Bookshelf" entry in the "Fictionwise Book Store" Online Catalog will now access all of your bookshelves (on ereader.com, fictionwise.com, and stanza.fictionwise.com); do let us know if you encounter any difficulties with it.

Of course, this won't fix the problems with those particular books that fail to import into Stanza; that is going to require a new version, which are are going to submit to Apple in the next few days.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback on the process. We do find it very helpful to hear from our users about how to make the process smoother, and be assured that we are going to continue to work with Fictionwise.com to make the whole process more transparent and simple.

All Three Sites for Bookshelves

This may not be something you could answer, but if we have the same login info for each site, is it possible for Fictionwise to combine the account info (if the same) from each site making it easier to purchase ebooks regardless of the site the book is linked to if you are shopping through Stanza?

Thanks!

Emily's picture

Yes, if you have the same

Yes, if you have the same login info for all three sites, you should be able to see content you purchased from or uploaded to all three sites in My Bookshelf in the Fictionwise Book Store.

Issues with personal content pdbs

As I noted in the other thread, your server update fixed the issue for the ereader purchased/free pdbs but personal content books are still failing with a no data error.

While I suppose it is a data reading error based in the iphone version of stanza, the error message is identical to that which had been affecting the purchased ereader books. Thus, to me as a layman, it seems that the URL/server request issue is still rearing its ugly head.

Emily's picture

Are you still finding this to

Are you still finding this to be a problem? Let us know.

Yup. All three personal

Yup. All three personal content books, which all open in eReader, have the same empty file error.

Emily's picture

Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for letting us know. I've sent you an email to discuss this further.

Importing into Stanza

Will the new version be able to download dictionaries?

I'm afraid the title won't

I'm afraid the title won't help you. It's a rpg called De Profundis. I created the eReader file myself.

I'll try the eReader bookshelf thing tomorrow; I'm in bed right now.

Same issue

Hi Marc -
I had the same issue with just one of the seven eReader titles I've purchased.
Title: Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
Author : David Allen
Error: Import Failed - Failed to download and import 'Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity': The ebook file did not contain any data. It may be corrupt: /var/mobile/Applications/[some hex value]]Documents/Downloads/download-0

I tried both the "eReader Bookshelf" method and addnig "mobile.ereader.com" as a separate bookshelf with similar results.

Any ideas?

Thanks for letting us know

Thanks for letting us know about the offending file; we'll take a look at it and try to fix it for the next release of Stanza (until then you can continue to use the official eReader client to read the file).
And please do let us know about any other titles you encounter problems with.

Potential issue

Marc,

In thinking about it a little, I remembered that the GTD book I referenced does contain some image files, which your faq says Stanza will not display. Perhaps that is the issue?

I know Ereader supports these, as I've read most of the book on my old Treo and through the Ereader iPhone app.

I don't know if there's a fix, per se, but maybe that's an explanation. Is there a way to strip images from the ereader files in Stanza desktop perhaps?

Thanks!
-kilsey

marc's picture

Stanza iPhone actually

Stanza iPhone actually supports images; it is only Stanza Desktop that has the limitation that images are not imported or converted, so that probably is not the cause of the issue. However, we will investigate that as a possible issue in our effort to resolve the issues with that book.

Ereader bookshelf

I have about ten books in my ereader shelf, both personal and purchased. While all of them appear in the ereader bookshelf in stanza, they all fail to download in stanza due to a no data found error. They all work fine in the ereader app.

I think the problem is systemic and not title specific.

marc's picture

Stanza Desktop doesn't

Stanza Desktop doesn't currently support eReader books; they are currently only supported in Stanza iPhone. We hope to rectify that limitation in the near future, but until then, you can follow the instructions at http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/getting_ereader_titles_on_the_iphone for getting your books from your desktop to your iPhone.
