148apps.com BestAppEver: “Stanza has redefined how everyone thinks about reading on a mobile device.”
— 2008 Best Free App
Hi,
I've seen several places that if you edit your source file and put "Title:" and "Author:" tags at the top, when you export the Kindle format, that information will be carried over.
Both Title and Author will show up in the Book Info section of Stanza Desktop, but when exporting to Kindle:
Title works.
Author does not work.
Any help with this would be great,
d
Notification of Fix?
Can I be placed on a list to be notified with this is corrected? I am using Stanza to export to Kindle and I, too, am having the issue with Author. Thanks.

Kindle - Title, Author problem
My equip: Kindle 2, iMac, OS-X, Stanza v 1.0.0 beta 16
On export from Stanza to Kindle, Kindle not getting Title [Home presented as "Unknown].
Tried changing Title in /View/Book Info then doing save & export. This did not work.
Exported to .txt file; inserted an additional cr/lf before Title:; saved .txt file; exported file to Kindle.
Title appeared correctly in Home page, but author did not appear in listing [author did appear correctly in opened file].
Conclusion:
Book Info in Stanza/Kindle is quite white-space sensitive. Work-arounds here should probably concentrate on spacing in header on .txt files.
Thanks for fix
I came online to add to this thread, then saw you'd posted an update. The fix works great with books tranferred to my Kindle. Thanks!
Still not working for me.
Please tell me exactly what you are doing that gets the Kindle to recognize the author. I've opened txt, doc, and pdf files with Stanza beta 15, edited and/or added title and author metadata, and then exported as azw, prc, and mobi. No matter what I do, though the title metadata shows up properly, the author isn't showing up on my Kindle. Furthermore, when I open the exported book with Stanza, even it says author: unknown. And by the way, though I can copy and paste into the metadata fields, if I try to enter text directly, I cannot put spaces between words.
Hmm, I think you're right
Hmm, I think you're right about not getting the author recognized when exporting to Kindle, though it does seem to work well when exporting to other formats. The author is getting picked up when exporting to Kindle format, as you'll see, but it isn't getting put in quite the right place (i.e., it's in a subheading instead of the main heading). I'll tell our engineers to look into this, and we'll try to fix it soon.
By the way, there is a new method for entering title and author information: just edit Book Info in the View menu and then Save As... or Export.
Fantastic! That's what we
