Stanza Desktop -> Convert eBooks

Hello Stanza Team,

First, my congratulation to Stanza Desktop, the only software I found in the Mac world, which can convert such a wide range of eBook formats. I am very pleased about that.

Using Stanza B13 on my Desktop to read and mainly convert my writting and novels into different formats (ex. PDF -> ePub) I could not yet figure out, how to display the cover titel after post processing the new format. Neither I could enter or set the book attributes like Publisher, Autor, etc.. I am getting a readable format, however, the book attributes are not completely displayed nor can be entered (ex. if I list the book on Adobes Digital editions).
What did I wrong?

If I am writiting a novel and want to convert it in all kind of different formats, like Kindle, ePub, etc. - is there a recommended base format I should use to avoid strange characters or missing line feeds, as I noticed on some convertions? (ex. PDF -> ePub).
How can I get the cover title displayed in the book and/or embedded graphics/illustrations?

I know the Stanza Desktop is still in Beta phase and I may ask too much or too early.
However, any feedback would be very appreciated.

Greetings,
Thomas

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your reply and advise. I just downloaded Adobe InDesign as a try-out and got to say this software can do what I was looking for. As a self publisher, I was searching for a convertion tool that allows me to generate different eBook formats to publish my novels. InDesign seems to be able to generate reasonable ePub formats for Adobe's Digital Editions, which is a good start.
However, there are confusing many formats that end with *.epub but still seem to be different, I'm not sure if InDesign really can do them all.
For example: What's the difference between the *.epub format the Sony reader can handle vs. Adobe's *.epub format for digital editions?
Still not sure which format will be the preferred one for the future and have a dream there will be only one that fits for everybodies needs...

Greetings,
Thomas

You should be able to read

You should be able to read the exact ePub file in Stanza, Adobe Digital Editions, and the Sony Reader. It is a standard file format for electronic books, so any compliant reader should be able read it.

Stanza Desktop currently

Stanza Desktop currently doesn't have any features to override the information like title and author, and doesn't let you override the auto-detected cover image. It is meant more as a simple converter to get your books onto your iPhone, Kindle, or Sony Reader, and not as a full-fledged book management system.

For those sorts of features, you may want to take a look at Adobe InDesign (http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/), but be warned that it is pricey. For simpler metadata editing and conversion needs, you might take a look at Caibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/), which is free.
