The New York Times: Stanza: “The iPhone or iPod Touch can act as an electronic book reader.”
Tip of the Week: Turn Your iPhone Into an e-Book

iPhone Stanza wishlist

Dear LexCycle, thank you for your nice eReader.
As per request, here is my personal wishlist (mostly cosmetic), to have Stanza look like this upcoming app (that is NOT a generical eReader, it is DIFFERENT from Stanza, but I really like the look of it):

http://classicsapp.com/

I woul LOVE if Stanza could:

1) Organize MY books as in a bookshelf (like classic app video or Monster Delicious for Mac) with proper covers; I personally like it more than the coverflow view now in Stanza (a little sluggish).
2) Have the turning page progressive animation, with the finger swipe (OPTIONAL).
3) Have some random (3-4) 'turning page' sounds that pop in when I turn a page (even in the standard mode, as is now with one tap).

With this cosmetic changes I would even pay for Stanza as a generic eBook reader.

Again, thank you very much.

Stefano

The ability to send the video

The ability to send the video out of an Ipod/Iphone is currently not-available to deveopers. The only programs that can use the output cables are Apple's own Video and Photo apps. It's out of Lexcycle's hands, as far as I know.

Find / Find Next

I recently switched from a Sony Clie with PalmReader and iSilo to an iPod touch. What a difference that made! After some testing, Stanza became my eReader of choice.

One of the features that is lacking is an easy to use Find Next-function. Finding a piece of text is easy enough, but finding the next occurrence of the same text is quite cumbersome.

trying my luck here, would be good if there is a human voice text-to-speech. Huge ebook base with text-to-speech program would be great combination, thanks.

Stanza to Sync my Books on iTunes

Based on so many issues with Stanza desktop and dependence on Bonjour and relared firewall issues, why not allow the iPhone Stanza App to sync its book thru iTunes. For example, if I want to have a PDF available to my iPhone, I could add it to my iTunes and Stanza would sync up and Voila, it's on my iPhone Stanza!

As I understand it, this is a

As I understand it, this is a limitation that Apple apply in that they do not allow 3rd party applications to get access to iTunes. This is why Stanza synchronizes with a PC via a wireless connection rather than via a USB connection.

Annotation please

I would love to be able to annotate text in Stanza. Just highlighting would be a good start, but adding annotations would be even better.

Language learning

I think stanza could be very useful for people who try to learn foreign languages. It'd be perfect if, for instance, when reading a German book I could tap on a word to see it's meaning in English. In this case a German - English dictionary would be needed, and there are hundreds of possible language combinations.

I second this request! The

I second this request! The dictionary access feature is a nice thing to have when reading in English, but it would be FABULOUS if available for reading books in a foreign language.

Different List

I am obviously coming from a different point of view and optical/acustical details do not matter that much to me, but the only two things I REALLY miss in Stanza are:

1. Notes (attached to paragraphs if possible)
2. Customizable paragraph spacing - they are too narrow for me

french orthography

Hi, is there any chance that in the next update French texts will show proper orthography? Right now all the special characters with accents are not shown.

Thanks,

Michael

built in dictionary and note taking

I used to use eReader on WM phones and iphone, but I like the ease of downloading books (especially for offline use) in Stanza much better. So I deleted the other apps.

However, one BIG feature that I miss is a built in dictionary and ability to make a note in a book.

In eReader, you can tap and hold on any word and it would pop up a window with the definitions and uses of the word. This is great when reading some novels that use flowery language, or even in older novels that use terminology not common anymore today. (like Charles Dickens novels)

I could also tap to add a note to a page, or insert a bookmark. The note portion was really nice when using bibles, reference manuals, or textbooks. I could tap a menu when in a book and jump right to any note or bookmark's page. When on that page, a little icon denotes that a note exists on that page. When I tap that icon, a pop up window opens with my note in it to edit or delete. Really handy to help clarify something you have on that page.

Would the dictionary and notes be possible in the iphone version of Stanza?

Agreed on wanting dictionary linkage...

Would also like to see dictionary integration in Stanza.

You could even include the free, now in public domain, 1909 Webster's New International Dictionary. It's a great complement to the older public domain novels with obscure words--and would show off the dictionary integration nicely.

On the Palm, the program M:iD (by Thai Palm) is superb as the front end to various dictionaries, including the 1909 one. It is fast, clean interface, tappable words--and would be a good model for this.

An integrated dictionary

An integrated dictionary would be very nice to have.

Dictionary

I completely agree about having a dictionary
Link.....love that.

Graphic novel support.

If there was a way to import graphic novels to the iPhone, that would be awesome. I would definitely consider paying for an app like that.

Video Out for Stanza

I would like to have the iphone be able to display the stanza reader on a pair of iwear through the video out. Currently the iphone will only display video or pictures on teh video out.
