iPod Stanza forgets where I left off

I'm reading a long book (over 400 pages) on my iPod touch. When I finish reading and go back to the main menu and then later return, Stanza puts me at the end of the last "chapter", which in my book is something like credits. I assume that Stanza is supposed to remember my place? Is there a hint on what I need to do so it does so?

Ps - the book is Someone comes to town someone leaves town by Cory Doctorow, perhaps this is a book specific issue?

Same here, more information.

I've having a similar problem but only with some books. I come back to them and Stanza has gone back several pages (even several hundred pages in long books), so I have to keep bookmarks if I want to track my progress properly.

The books I'm having trouble with have in common that they aren't properly split in chapters, and some chapters are very long (they're mostly PDF books converted with Calibre, which not always marks the chapters right).

The problem IMO is related to rotating between portrait and landscape modes. I'm not sure about this, but it is my impression that when the iPhone changes to landscape Stanza always goes back a bit, and sometimes in doing so, it's not only a bit, but it jumps back to the start of the chapter. If the markers aren't properly set, that could mean a big jump backwards.

To all those having problems: does that happen if you lock Stanza from rotating?

For the matter, I use Stanza 1.7, font size is only slightlly bigger than the default.

OFFTOPIC: I cannot *search* personal libraries based on Calibre, as I can other online libraries. Is that a Stanza limitation or a Calibre limitation, just so I know where to ask?

Cheers.

If instead of exiting, you

If instead of exiting, you just back out of your book into the Stanza library and then re-open the book, does it still not accurately remember your place? Also, note that Stanza 1.8.1 fixed a lot of bugs with Stanza 1.7, so upgrading to the latest release might help address the problem.

Losing the place

I have the same problem. I've been reading Plato's dialogue with Gorgias, and sometimes when I start back on the book it's in the place where I left off, and sometimes it's at the beginning of the section. Then I have to flip and flip and try to find the right spot. This was cool when I was twelve pages in, but it's kind of hard to flip half the book. I read on my iPhone 3G.

We would very much like to be

We would very much like to be able to reproduce the problem, but we are still unable to. I've tried the following:

1. Downloaded Gorgias from the Feedbooks catalog
2. Just to page 200
3. Exit Stanza
4. Re-start Stanza, and it goes back to page 200

Have you set your preferences to any non-default values? For example, is you font size very large?

I'm having Stanza jump ahead

I'm having Stanza jump ahead on me too. I thought that it was me...

I am not able to reproduce

I am not able to reproduce the problem. I assume you are using the version of the Doctorow book available from the Feedbooks catalog? If I open the book, go to the chapter "Novel", jump to page #200, exit Stanza, and then re-open Stanza, it jumps back to page #200 of the chapter as expected.

Are you able to reproduce this problem with a shorter book (like the Time Machine, which is included with the Stanza installation)? Also, can you let us know your application preferences for non-default settings? E.g., are you using a very large font size, or different text alignment settings or something?

Forgetting where I left off...

I have the same problem. I fall asleep reading, then the next day I find stanza has zoomed to the last page of the chapter. At first I thought I had fallen asleep with my finger on the touchscreen, but I see the behavior is always the same. Most of the time Stanza remembers my place, but just when I'm falling asleep. I have had this behavior on a long book, 900+ pages with long chapters.

This seems like a pretty easy bug to catch. Let's have a new release!
