Love it... update wipes books on iPhone

Does data on the iPhone have to get wiped whenever the app gets updated?

I have the same books I downloaded/uploaded since 1.0. I think it even kept my place in the book I was reading after updating.

It's a personal thing ...

My books stayed as well.

I've seen complaints about this for other program updates. I don't recall seeing whether they've narrowed it down to the way someone updated, or just some random-seeming bug in the iPhone software.
