21 Cool iPhone Apps - Stanza

Is it possible to upload massively several books into Stanza iPhone?

Hi, I have a vast collection of ebooks that I want to upload into the Stanza in my iPhone, but I can't find how to do it, so is it possible to upload a batch containing many files?

To see my point, I have more than 300 ebooks and doing it one by one could take me forever.

PS: Excellent app is Stanza, I use it on a daily basis!!

You're welcome.

Moving large quantities of ebooks to Stanza has been the weakest part of the product offering since
the product was first introduced. With Calibre's content server and the "download all" capabilities
that Stanza got in 1.9.1 (and actually worked in 2.0), things seem to be looking up.

Amazing!!!

It worked incredible, thanks a lot, with this tool I can upload many collections, thanks!!

yes.

You can "bulk" download ebooks to the handheld, but it requires a third party product and a bit of manipulation.

The first problem is that Stanza on the handheld only understands one format - ePub. The Stanza desktop product
converts the ebook to ePub before serving it up to the WiFi link, but can only serve up one file at a time. In order
to get around this, get Calibre (it is free) from http://calibre-ebook.com

You'll need to install calibre, then migrate your ebooks into calibre by either using the "Add Books" button at the
top of the screen, or by dragging and dropping the books into the calibre library. After the books have been added,
you can edit the metadata (title, author, etc.) by clicking on a book and hitting "E" (for Edit). Once things are the
way you want, you'll need to convert the books to ePub by highlighting one or more books and using the "Conver e-Books"
icon at the top.

Now you should be ready to do your upload. Make sure that your firewall is open (or turned off), go to the "Preferences"
icon in Calibre, and click it. Scroll down the menu until you see "Content Server" and select it. It will bring up a
screen of options for the content server. Change "Max OPDS Items per Query" to a number greater than the number of
ebooks you have (I set mine to 5000), then click "Start Server". Give the server a couple of minutes to start up, then
bring up the iPhone. Connect to the same WiFi network that your Calibre server is on.

Start Stanza (needs to be at 2.0 or later for this to work). At the bottom of the screen, select "Get Books", then at the top
of the screen select "Shared". Under "Computers Sharing Books", you'll see "Books in Calibre (on mymachinename)". Select it,
then select "By Title". You should be presented with a complete list of all the titles you've got in Calibre (I've got a couple of thousand).
In the top right corner of the screen, there's an icon that looks like a book with an arrow pointing down at it. That's the "download all"
button. Select it, then respond Yes to the warning.

At this point, Stanza will start a mass download of all the ebooks in your Stanza catalog. It will take it a minute or so to get going,
but it will place a small red bubble atop the "Get Books" button at the bottom of the display that will contain a number
indicating how many books are left to download. When it finishes, you're done.

Calibre has lots of features, and I won't try to describe them all here. It has pretty good documentation, and I'm impressed
with it as a library manager. This is just the bare bones of how to do a bulk transfer, but it DOES work. I've moved as
many as 1000 books at a time this way, and once things are set up in Calibre, you can do it pretty quickly.
