Ebooks dont show up on Stanza iPhone (via USB)

Hello there,

as I have now invested really much time and cant help myself, I know to ask for help here on the forums:

I use an iPhone 3G 16 GB with Stanza 1.91.

I have a few PDF's on my Desktop and I wanted to transfer them to my iphone, as I have no wireless, I tried it via the USB and iPhone Browser method. I created a Stanza Folder and I converted my PDF's do epub and whatever... When I move them to the folder they are there, but they dont show up on the iPhone once i open Stanze.

Can anybody plz help me, because its really annoying when it doesnt work the way it should!!

Thx in advance!

I don't see what the problem is, I just turned on tethering on my iphone, plugged in my iphone to my computer and both calibre and stanza desktop show up to transfer books.

That assumes that you are in

That assumes that you are in an area of the world where tethering is suported, or that you have a Jailbroken iPhone.

a quick google search turned up results for enabling tethering on both jailbroken and non-jailbroken iphones in the USA with ATT.

Whoo! It worked lol, i just tried it AGAIN with YOUR epub file with iPhone BROWSER and it still didnt work... then I downloaded iPhone Explorer and used your guide and voila ... now its working !!!

Oh my gosh I still dont know why its not working with iPhone Browser.... ok so gotta remeber it!

I think Lexcycle's guide is a

I think Lexcycle's guide is a bit outdated, here is the method that worked for me:

1) convert your books to epub using Stanza Desktop or Calibre. They have to be in ePub format. If you aren't SURE you have a properly formatted ePub book, go here: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=130 and download a free one to try. Or download one from Project Gutenberg. Just make sure it is a ".ePub" file. I am using http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60426 Alcott's Little Women as an example.

2)Download and install the free "iPhone Explorer" utility from http://www.iphone-explorer.com

3)Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable and launch iPhone Explorer

4) Go to File/Select Root Directory and select the custom option- it should say "/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/"--?-- and has an "Edit" button.

5) Click the "Edit" button, and type in "Stanza", with no quote marks (so Stanza )

6) You should see two window panes in iPhone Explorer: The left one is the iPhone Directory, the right one is where you drag the ePub files. So drag your ePub file onto the right hand pane, and you should see the book title Little Women under "Name", EPUB under File Type, and 6MB under size. (or whatever your books are) If you didn't load the proper format, it won't show up correctly.

7) Launch Stanza on the iPhone. Note, you cannot have it open already. If its open, close it, and relaunch it. Stanza will open with the Downloads window open, and Little Women (or your book of course) Click the blue arrow on the right, and start reading!

8) Your book(s) should now be on your iPhone in the Stanza library. As a note-if you go back to iPhone Explorer, the book will be gone from that temp. folder you created-Stanza moves it automatically on the iPhone to its own directory.

I just tested this on an iPhone 3GS, Stanza 1.9.1, and a Windows XP computer. Worked without problems. Good luck!

Thank you. I also had the same problem, my ebook didn't show up on Stanza IPhone. Your comment helped me to solve it.

dint work..
nethin u can do to help?

The USB option is no longer

The USB option is no longer supported in the latest Stanza release. Apple made Lexcycle remove this support as being against the T&C for the app store.

The network options still work.

Jailbreak

These restrictions are a JOKE. Just means someone else will find a way to do it and make a massive profit. Apple isn't forcing people to do the right thing its alienating your readers. Pfffff I think I'll just Delete this app and find a GOOD ENOUGH pdf reader. PS network options are limited and hard to use........ My attention span is drag and drop.
