I know this type of question has been asked multiple times. I know that DRM protected Mobipocket (.prc) files are not supported by Stanza. I know that I have a few dozen Mobipocket files from the same vendor that aren't opening.
After contacting the vendor to find out if they DRM protect their files, I was told that they don't. So.... I'm asking this question to see if there's some kind of "bug" that is causing the issue. I've managed to transfer 40+ books to my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) from this vendor, but for whatever reason, I've been getting the following error message on the remaining books I want to transfer when I try to open them on my iMac (using the latest version of Stanza--beta 18):
"Could not load book java.lang.IllegalStateException: Error in accessing section ### at index #; the file may be locked"
The numbers change for every file I try opening. Is the vendor simply unaware that the files are DRM protected? I have no idea what goes into creating a file in a certain format, if they just don't know what's going on, or what? Or is there something else going, the files have been corrupted somehow....? Any help would be great.
Thanks
After further communication
After further communication with the vendor, they've forwarded my problem to the IT department to figure out if the files I've purchased from them have been corrupted in some way to cause the error. I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding that. At least they've been working with me on trying to solve the issue...
You might also want to try
You might also want to try opening it in Calibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net), which might be able to handle the Mobipocket file better.
Try to open the files in
Try to open the files in FBReader. You can download it here:
www.fbreader.org
If you can open the ebooks in FBReader, then they don't have DRM. If you can't, then there is something wrong in the file.
Who is the vendor, and can you gewt another format?
My money is on the vendor not
My money is on the vendor not knowing what they are talking about.
