Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this! I'm definitely not very technologically savvy and I don't know what I could possibly be doing wrong. I downloaded the new version of Stanza. Once it downloaded, I dragged the icon into my applications folder and tried to activate it from there. I have an ibook with the Mac OS X 10.4.11 so I believe I have an acceptable operating system. Once I double click on the icon, I see the computer trying to load the program but then nothing happens. I have no idea why? Does anyone know what I can do about this?
Thanks so much!!
Won't launch on Mac Mini running 10.5.8
I was seeing the same problem. I tried moving J2SE 5.0 to the top of the Java Applications section in Java Preferences.app and still have the same problem, the app bounces in the dock, then quits. Here's the console log:

Same for me :-(
Stanza terminates immediately when launched. Tried to downlaod again, didn't help.
Same console log as "bulletkid". MacBook, 10.5.8, Java 1.6.0_13
Solved in 10.6
Apparently the problem, which might be linked to Java, was solved for me in 10.6.
Now Stanza loads without problems.
Same Problem
I have exacty the same problem, when I launch the application it does not open but instead terminates instantly. I have osx 10.5.8 and am using a unibody mac book pro. Any help would be great.
I have the same version of
I have the same version of Stanza and Mac OS X except I'm running on a MacBook. I click the icon, watch it bounce, and nothing happens.
I thought I'd drop into Terminal and check the file permissions to make sure that I had execute permissions. Here is what I found:
kjmazzon-mac:Applications kmazzone$ ls -l Stanza.app/total 0
dr-xr-xr-x 6 kmazzone admin 204 Jul 1 08:50 Contents
Just to be safe, I did a
chmod 777and got the same results. Then I tried to launch it from the Terminal prompt and here is what I got:kjmazzon-mac:Applications kmazzone$ sudo open Stanza.app/LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/Stanza.app.
I thought that the file might be damaged so I tried downloading it again and still get the same failure to launch.
Any ideas as to what is going on?
Can you post the console
Can you post the console output as outlined by http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/troubleshooting?

Let me know if you need anything else.
The launch issue seemed to
The launch issue seemed to resolve itself after loading Snow Leopard.
Can you let us know what kind
Can you let us know what kind of computer you have? Would it perchance be a Mac Mini? (I ask because we recently discovered a problem launching Stanza Desktop that seems to only occur on the Mac Mini).
Same issue
I have a mac mini, update to the latest of everything I know that Stanza needs, such as OS, JAVA, etc. I am running beta 17
Console is not helpful I am afraid, but this is what it says:
8/21/09 3:52:19 PM [0x0-0x174174].stanza[4296] stanza.util.Log INFO 15:52:19: Starting Stanza 1.0.0-beta17
8/21/09 3:52:19 PM JavaApplicationStub[4296] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Enabled
8/21/09 3:52:19 PM JavaApplicationStub[4296] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Setting timeout for SWT to 0.100000
the system.log has additional information:
Aug 21 15:52:20 mac-mini /Volumes/Lexcycle Stanza/Stanza.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub[4296]: CPSSetForegroundOperationState(): This call is deprecated and should not be called anymore.
Aug 21 15:52:34 mac-mini kernel[0]: Finder[138] Unable to clear quarantine `README': 30
Aug 21 15:53:22 mac-mini /usr/sbin/spindump[4300]: process 4296 is being monitored
I suspect this is not very helpful considering a deprecated method won't cause the issue I am seeing normally.
To be precise in the issue I am having. I launch the app from the applications directory (I have also try directly from the Lexcycle Stanza mount after download for comparison, say reaction both times) The app attempts to launch (bouncing icon, whole nine yards), this take approximately 50 seconds (a bit long I'm assuming), after that time, the bouncing stops and the icon just sits there. The white oval of an active application never appears. Right clicking on the application causes shows the application to be non responsive. At this point I must force quit the application.
At no point does any of the following ever happen: (I know bad English, sorry)
* the top bar never changes it's name to stanza
* a window never appears
Wish I could help more, but my hands are tied when it comes to someone else's code. As I cannot download previous version of the beta software I cannot tell you if this is a resent development or not.
Kind Regards.

Lemme know if you need more info
If you launch the
If you launch the /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app tool and re-order the "Java Applications" section so "J2SE 5.0" is at the top and then try to re-launch Stanza, does it work? If not, what is the console output?
Works if I move J2SE 5.0 32-bit to the top
If I make J2SE 5.0 32-bit the top preferred java version on my Mac Mini running 10.5.8, Stanza launches. About to go try it now. Any idea when this will be fixed?
