Problem with "/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/Stanza"

I've copied some .epub files in "/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/Stanza" on my iPod touch 2G 16GB, iPhone OS 3.0 using DiskAid 3.0 and they don't show up in Stanza v1.9. What gives ? Is .epub the correct extension ? Or is it .ePub ? Or just .zip ?

I SOLVED MY PROBLEM.

I SOLVED MY PROBLEM. Apparently, DiskAid v3.0 uses a different writing method for jailbroken devices. It seems I just had to switch from my "Root folder" to my "Media folder". Closed the application, rebooted my iPod and after trying it again, it worked. I have done the impossible. And it only took me 3 days to figure it out... Again, thank you for your support.

Next time WARN people about using the ROOT folder in DiskAid ! I'm olso using the DiskAid 3.0 and every time I open the application it notifies me there's a new version out (v3.1). You think they've solved it ? Because I can't find a changelog on their site or anywhere else for that matter... I haven't tried iFunBox or iPhoneBrowser yet (which are supposed to be FREE), since DiskAid has served it's purpose. Thanks again.

That's very good to know!

That's very good to know! Glad you got it sorted it out, and we will consider ways to clarify the FAQ with that information.

Another solution that works

Hallo. I had the same problem, but the solution was different and works immediately. I have a 3g Iphone 8 gb Jaibreaked with 2.2.1 Fw. I followed the steps suggested in the FAQ using Diskaid and ohters programs with no success. Then I found this method. These are the steps.

I downloaded "iFile" from Cydia. (it's free)

Using iFile I delete and re-create the "Stanza" folder inside the "/var/mobile/media/DCIM" folder, giving ALL THE PERMISSION (write, read, an so on..) TO THE "new" STANZA FOLDER. (This is the most imprtant step)

I upload inside 4 book converted by stanza desktopm using a free program like "Iphone pc suite" or "Ifunbox"

I opened the stanza reader and everything was ok

I hope this could be useful to someone.

Regards to all

Thanks spst !! It worked

Thanks spst !!

It worked almost the same way for me.
with iFile check the first three user rights, but NO "STICKY".
Then stanza can read the folder and convert the files.

bye,

Still no dice. Can someone

Still no dice. Can someone please upload an epub to a public server (like rapidshare or imghost.org) ? One that YOU KNOW it works from the DCIM folder, on Stanza v1.9.

Pretty please ?

I meant imagehost.org. Sorry.

I meant imagehost.org. Sorry.

Yes, I said "...DiskAid 3.0

Yes, I said "...DiskAid 3.0 and they don't show up in Stanza v1.9." Downloaded from iTunes yesterday (or the day before). It doesn't seem to grab them from the DCIM folder. When I start Stanza there's only the software manual and Alice is Wonderland... I've tried rebooting the device, but still nothing.

After you launch Stanza, can

After you launch Stanza, can you check the /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/Stanza/ folder to see if the books are still there? When Stanza imports them it will remove the books, so if the books are still visible in that folder, then it isn't able to access them for some reason.

You might try deleting the /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/Stanza folder altogether and re-creating it and seeing if that works.

Also, what other folders do you see visible in the parent /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/ folder? There should at least be another folder called "100APPLE" in there. If not, check to make sure the drop-down in the lower-left corner of DiskAid says "Media Folder" (and not "DiskAid Folder').

So you're saying I should delete it and try again. Ok... Should I reboot after deleting ? Or after I copied the books ? Or not reboot it at all ? Thank you so much for your time. I would really like to make this work.

It can't hurt to try to

It can't hurt to try to reboot (although I don't know if it will help).

Also, check to see if there are any other folders in that DCIM parent folder I mentioned in my last post.

Deleted the Stanza folder

Deleted the Stanza folder from DCIM
Deleted the stanza app from ipod
Power off
Power on
Attempted to re-sync with iTunes, nothing... Stanza wouldn't get to the ipod so I had to rename "Stanza 1.9.ipa" to "Stanza v1.9.ipa" from the ...\iTunes\Mobile Applications folder and re-add it to the iTunes library.

Now it worked ! I successfully installed Stanza !! Whooptie-doo...

Closed iTunes.
Opened DiskAid and made a "Stanza" folder in DCIM.
Copied epubs.
Powered off, powered on.
Started Stanza...

AND NOTHING. Still 2 titles. I believe it's a Stanza bug. Any other suggestions ? Are the filenames too long ? What's going on ?

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne.epub
A Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Jules Verne.epub
Unbeaten Tracks in Japan, by Isabella L. Bird.epub
My Man Jeeves, by P. G. Wodehouse.epub
Emergency_ This Book Will Save Your Life - Neil Strauss.epub

Is it the comma (,) or is it the dash (-), underline (_) ? Which is it ?

Back to my request. Can you please upload an epub that works for you from the Stanza folder ? Because mine are still in there. Is it "Stanza" or "stanza" for the DCIM folder ? Does capitalization matter (like in Linux) ?

Very odd. The punctuation in

Very odd. The punctuation in the file names shouldn't make a difference, but if you try naming one of them something like "book.epub" and trying to put only that file in the "Stanza" folder (first deleting all the other books in there), does it work?

Also, can you try installing the free "FileAid" app from the app store and seeing if you are able to transfer any files over to that app using the "DiskAid" program (as per their directions)? That will at least let us know if there is some fundamental problem with transferring files on your device.

Also, in the meantime, bear in mind that there are other ways to get books from your PC to your device (as listed at http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/how_to_get_books_onto_stanza_iphone).

Anything ending with ".epub"

Anything ending with ".epub" should automatically be imported. Are you are using Stanza 1.9? That's the first version of the software that supports import from that folder.
