The New York Times: Stanza: “The iPhone or iPod Touch can act as an electronic book reader.”
Tip of the Week: Turn Your iPhone Into an e-Book

Cannot import books in cyrillic

Stanza 1.9, iPhone 3GS 3.0.
Cannot import books in Cyrillic. Tried 4 different ways:
1) Using Stanza catalog
2) Using direct download
3) Downloaded book to Mac (was opened and displayed just fine with Stanza v.1.7b on Mac), turned on sharing and tried to get it to iPhone through shared books
4) Opened book on Mac with Calibre, then tried to get it to iPhone using Calibre content server as a Stanza catalog.
All 4 cases eventually produced the same error: "Unable to translate for import."
Only happen to me with Cyrillic books - no problems with books in English. Saw other reports that it stopped working after latest Stanza update (cannot confirm since I did not have previous version of Stanza).

Opening Cyrilic in STANZA Desktop

Have downloaded
prpravzh5.epub
from
http://www.zone4phone.ru/books/index.phb?=p...
(a Cyrillic book), and have tried to open it using
Stanza Desktop 1.0.0-beta17build#1:403
which I had installed using the
StanzaSetup.exe file. (53,646 KB).
The text cannot be read, and I have found no possibility to modify/adjust the character encoding.
Can anybody help me, or is Stanza Desktop not yet capable of reading the Cyrillic characters? (According to the Russian publisher, it should, however, be possible).
Thank you in advance.

If you open the book in Calibre (from http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/), does it display correctly?

Where did you download the

Where did you download the books from? If it was from istanza.org, then they have identified some problems with some of their books, and are working to make them compatible with Stanza.
