Sometimes page turn doesn't work after upgrade

Tapping on right-hand side of the screen shows page turn animation, but than renders the same page.
Work around - manually walk to the page with slider, or search for the text on the next page.

Any ideas?

After Page Turn Locking Up ver 1.9.1

If I close Stanza, open some app with a lot of graphics (like a game) and use it for a couple of minutes, when I reopen Stanza, it opens to the menu instead of to the most recent page of the last book I was reading. I re-pick the book, and go to the and it opens to the PREVIOUSLY closed location, not the LAST closed location. But then I can flip through until I get to the place it locked up and continue normally from there. (It locks up on a page turn at least once per day)

Can you try resetting

Can you try resetting Stanza's settings by going to the top-level Library screen, tapping the gears icon in the upper-right corner, and tapping "Reset Settings" and let us know if it still happens?

Still having this problem

I'm still having the problem mentioned in this thread. When I get toward the end of a book (usually), the page will no longer advance. I can change the size of the font to get it to work, but it usually happens again several times.

I notice the thread ends in July. Was there a fix? (Stanza support: Thanks very much for the info about dragging the F- and F+ buttons to the toolbar. I didn't know I could do that.)

Stanza version 1.9.1 was just

Stanza version 1.9.1 was just released, which fixes this problem. Please do let us know if this issue persists after upgrading.

Page turn problem here too

Just to add another data point that Stanza (v1.9) gets stuck on a page on my iPhone 3GS. Changing font size works to get to the next page when it's "stuck", but the farther into the (long) book I get, the more the problem happens. This effectively makes it impossible to finish the book. Also, the app does freeze occasionally, which I suspect is also related to the pagination problem.

Page turn fix anytime soon?

Can I load an older version of Stanza? 1.9 is sticking on a single page.. I have tried all suggestions in this forum and nothing works. Is there a fix in the near future, or are you determined to lose everyone to kindle?

Stanza iPhone version 1.9

Stanza iPhone version 1.9 does have a bug where it is occasionally impossible to advance to the next page. This usually happens when the font size is especially large, or the current chapter is especially long. We are working on fixing the bug for the next version of Stanza, but in the meantime, the only known workaround is to alter the font size, which will "unlock" the page and allow you to advance to the next page.

There are a number of ways to change the font size, but the easiest solution is to customize the bottom toolbar by tapping the center of the screen and then tapping the "..." button to show the toolbar actions palette. You then tap "Edit" and drag the "F+" and "F-" buttons on to the toolbar and tap "Save". The "F+" and "F-" buttons will then show up in the toolbar, so that the next time the page refuses to advance, you can bring up the toolbar, tap the "F+" button, advance to the next page, and then tap the "F-" button to restore your preferred font size. While this method is cumbersome, the page freezing should only be happening intermittently, so you should only need to use this work-around occasionally.

Your suggestion isn't working

I have Stanza 1.9 on my 4GB Iphone 2G with 3.0 software. Anytime I hit F+ or F- in my book, the screen goes black and exits the app. I am reading a DRM free book I brought over from Mobipocket. I hope your update comes out soon.

Page Turn issue

Well that does work but only for a few pages and only when holding the phone straight up and down. If I hold the phone sideways while reading even the font change does not work to turn the page. Is there an ETA on the fix release as I am not able to read books with this bug?

having same issue. Any work around?

I am having the same issue. using the slider works for maybe a couple of pages and then it gets stuck again. It is definitely impacting my reading experience. Any word on if an update will be coming out soon or do I need to find a new reader app?

the same, after the upgrade

After upgrading, I'm having a.m. problem. "Reset all settings" doesn't help.
IPhone 3G, firmware 3.0

Please help!

Needs to get fixed!!

I've been reading on Stanza for about 6 months! Very disappointed that I can't finish my book!! It gets stuck on a page, and you can't really move forward. Sometimes the scroll bar works, but it's a temporary fix. Please fix asap, or revert back to the last upgrade so we can continue reading. Would like to see a comment from Stanza acknowledging the isure and ETA for fix

I have been noticing this as

I have been noticing this as well having never had this problem on releases prior to the 1.9 release.

The odd thing is that in a given book it always seems to happen at the same place(s) as though in some way it is related to the content. However on the 1.8.1 version of Stanza the same book does not experience these problems.

Same Issue

Add me to this list of frustrated readers! Me: new iPhone 3g, first book (The Road) from Stanza Books by Fictionwise, after upgrading to 1.9 mid-way through Stanza chokes and refuses to go on. Skipping ahead sometimes works for a minute and I did do the reset trick which didn't help.

I MUST know what happens next!

For people experiencing this

For people experiencing this problem, can you try resetting Stanza's settings? You can do this by going to the top-level "Library" screen, tapping the gears icon in the upper-right corner, tapping the settings button, and then scrolling to the bottom and tapping "Reset All Settings" and then restarting Stanza. Please post to this thread if the problem persists with the default settings.

Still having problem

I tried resetting the settings. I thought it was going to work. After reading for a while, it got stuck again. I can move past the stuck page with the slider, but it then sticks again several pages later. Sometimes resetting doesn't help at all. I've also had it lock up on me -- freeze on a page which was stuck. I couldn't do anything, even bring up settings. Shutting Stanza down and restarting only brought up a blank screen. This has happened several times. The only solution was to reboot the iPhone.

I have tried this as well as

I have tried this as well as deleting and reinstalling Stanza and reuploading new copies of the book. Nothing works all my books will not turn pages.

Are you saying that none of

Are you saying that none of the pages will ever turn, or that it is intermittent? The original problem, as described, is that every once in a while a page won't turn.

It's intermittent, but when

It's intermittent, but when it happens you become stuck indefinitely. I.E. it will turn 30 pages fine, then get stuck turning page 31 for infinity and the only way to skip ahead is using the slider. Then it will happen again eventually. Hope this helps.

What he said. It will get

What he said. It will get stuck after a few pages and refuse to go further.

Same Problem as everyone else

Same Issue started after update. Please sent us a fix quickly. It seems that every since 3.0 came out every update everyone issues makes matters worse. I am using Stanza because of problems with Kindle, Bookshelf and Ereader. Stanza please you are my last hope, lets get this fixed.

Found my Issue

Hi,

I found the cause of the issue in my case, it was that the HTML file I was using had a linux based file format, which the windows based Apps didn't recognize properly.

It was all to do with the way that Linux/Mac/Windows do the NewLines, and the Windows Applications thoguht that the entire html file was on a single line, as a reuslt once I got to a certain point in the book it died.

Once I converted it to a Windows based file format, and then re-converted the book the issue went away, and it also detected the chapters properly.

This may or may not help others.

Yes, when I tap on right-hand margin to proceed to next page, this fails. If my page-turn setting is "turn," the result is the original page turning ad infinitum. If the setting is "slide," no animated progression occurs at all, i.e., the original page appears unchanged however many times it's tapped.

In order to make certain this wasn't a flaw in my content, I deleted the book and re-uploaded. Unfortunately, same results. Because this error seems to happen arbitrarily, and sometimes after numerous pages, I haven't taken the time to leaf through other titles in my library to determine if the error is system-wide. But, having read these posts, I assume it is.

I have a mint-condition iPhone 2G. I've used Stanza iPhone app since its inception, during which time I've read more than a dozen books of various lengths--one over 1300 pages--without a hitch. Only after the 1.9 upgrade did I encounter this one.

The most annoying part of the problem is that I can't achieve a decent solution. The book's percentage bar-slider is too coarse an adjustment to get me to the next page. Which begs the need for a finer slider adjustment. (And also alerts me to a missing feature: an option to manually enter a desired page number into a search box to make the page appear!) But, so far, all I can figure to do is to use the slider to move me (too far) forward, then tap left to return as close to my desired page as possible without accidentally getting stuck in the black hole again--!@#$%&!

Any better ideas?

Me too.

It only happened after upgrading to version 1.9 and so far it's only happened with long books. I haven't run into the problem with any short story I read.

I get it too!

Hi All,

I have the same issue. Except that for me, when I do a manual swipe to turn the page, it renders the next page, until the page is turned, then reverts!

Anyone have any ideas?

Stanza: Latest version in AppStore
eBook: Created using the Stanza Desktop Program
Attempted: Attempted to use the Calibre to fix (creating a new eBook from the source) and the same issue in the same spot.

I like the program (a couple of interesting quirks but overall good).

Same Problem

Exact same issue here. I experienced it for the first time last night, after upgrading to 1.9. I can move past the page with the slider, but after four or five page turns, the problem recurs.

page won't turn - adjust the font size slightly down in size

my first ebook on my first reader - and I got this with Stephen Baxters - Manifold : Space

It does appear related to the content but it went away (and has not come back after 100 pages) when I decreased the font size slightly, so perhaps if it is newline related then that decreases the probability of a newline occurring at the end of a page?

using Stanza 1.9
