The New York Times: Stanza: “The iPhone or iPod Touch can act as an electronic book reader.”
Tip of the Week: Turn Your iPhone Into an e-Book

Can't get into Book Info page in Online Catalog when ebook has already been downloaded - iPhone OS 3.0

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but prior to upgrading my iPhone to OS 3.0, whenever I'm browsing online catalogs and want to check the book info for titles I've already downloaded, I can just tap on the blue icon. Since upgrading to 3.0, tapping on the blue icon does nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. The first time you tap on it directly after downloading an ebook, it would still show the Book Info page. However, if you go out of the catalog, say you go back to the previous page or exit the app, tapping on the blue icon on subsequent visits gives you nothing.

Also, I'm not sure if this is considered a bug or feature request, but in the Library view, tapping on the blue icon does absolutely nothing - not even on prior firmware versions or Stanza app versions (at least, none that I recall). It doesn't even open the ebook. It would be nice if you can change the behavior similar to how it worked for Online Catalog before, where tapping on the blue icon opens the Book Info page. It's especially useful when browsing through titles looking for something to read. Having to open a book just to get to the info page kinda defeats the purpose (of the info page).

Thank you very much and more power. Stanza has truly revolutionized reading on the iPhone and hopefully, it would continue on to other mobile platforms.

I just upgraded to Stanza 1.9

I just upgraded to Stanza 1.9 on my first gen iPhone, and I'd like to say thank you for changing the default behavior of the blue button inside the library.

I'd like to report that the blue button still doesn't work in the online catalogs, though.

Again, thanks for the fix! It makes it so much easier to select a book for reading. :D

Thanks for letting us know;

Thanks for letting us know; the blue button not working for the Online Catalog entries is a new problem that has cropped up.

You are correct that the blue

You are correct that the blue disclosure button doesn't show book info in most cases. We are considering changing this for the next version of Stanza. Note that the one case in which it does display information is when it is displayed next to a book in the Online Catalog that you have already downloaded. Since tapping on the rest of the row will open the book itself, tapping the blue button is the only way to see the catalog's book description, which is why its behavior is different from the other displays of the blue disclosure button.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply and clarification. Again, I'd like to mention that the blue disclosure button is acting up in OS 3.0 even when in the Online Catalog view. Tapping it doesn't open the information page anymore. I've tested this on both a first generation iPhone and iPhone 3G S.
