The New York Times: Stanza: “The iPhone or iPod Touch can act as an electronic book reader.”
— Tip of the Week: Turn Your iPhone Into an e-Book
Windows Vista
Stanza version 1.0.0-beta16 build #1:396
iPod Touch
Hi, I'm having a small problem with stanza on my iPod.
It inserts a line break at every full stop, its not a big problem but throws off the flow of reading.
For example, when reading a book with peoples names it breaks after the Mr. or Mrs., so
"I ran to the back of the shop and found Mr. Jones there"
reads as
"I ran to the back of the shop and found Mr.
Jones there"
Is there anyway to fix this? I've tried using Calibre and converting to EPUB but that just removes the Mr./Mrs.
Thanks in advance
ePub file
You should be careful with editing the ePub file. It might mess your stuff up. It is possible not to mess anything up though.

If you want to edit an ePub
If you want to edit an ePub file then you can use Sigil which is an open-source ePub editor. That should be a safe way of editing such a file.
Thanks
ruhumI've played around with the conversion settings on Calibre, trying to convert it with the EPUB settings all ticked and that makes it worse.
Is there a way I can manually edit a epub or lit file and change the formatting on my laptop before I upload it?
Thanks in advance

If you don't mind getting
If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you can manually edit the epub file yourself. It is just a zip file of HTML, CSS, images, and XML metadata, so any unzipping program should work to extract the files.
If you make any manual changes to the ePub file, you will probably want to validate it (e.g., at http://bookworm.oreilly.com/publishers/ebook-testing/) to make sure it will work OK in Stanza and other ePub readers.

You can convert the .lit to
You can convert the .lit to plain text or html then edit it then convert that to epub.
Do the extra linebreaks show up if you open the .lit in MS Reader and change around the font size? They may actually be in the .lit file itself in which case the conversion is working fine and the only way to fix it would be manually editing out all the linebreaks.

Hi, thanks for the reply
I didnt know you could convert lit to txt files, can I do that in calibre?
The line breaks dont show in MS Reader or Calibre or in the Stanza Desktop reader only on the iPod app.
I've just finished the book (Fantastic read btw) and got book 2 and everything looks ok in this one, I'd still really like to figure out why it did it though in case I come across it again.

I haven't used this in a while but when I did it worked fine.

an .epub file is basically just a ZIP archive. The main content will be held as one or more XHTML files within that archive.

Hi
I tried converting to the epub and then unzipping and editing the html files and re-zipping the files and it threw the formatting off, or more possibly, I threw the formatting off.
