I'm new to Stanza, the iPhone, and reading eBooks ... and, disappointingly, I find the one major DRM-protected format my iPhone simply can't use (in Stanza or an any other app) is EPUB when protected with Adobe Digital Editions DRM.
Sadly, the Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium in my state lends EPUB eBooks in that format and also in PDF format with the same kind of DRM.
Once I discovered that, I learned that Lexcycle had announced some time ago that it would support that DRM solution in an upcoming version of Stanza. Now that has changed. I would at least like to know why ...
My thinking is that possibly the reason has to do with the difficulty and cost of implementing that DRM solution, technically speaking???
The reason for the reversal is probably due to the buy up from Amazon. It would compete directly with their Kindle infrastructure. No harm in that. Of course its a loss for us, the users, but business is business...
All we can do now is to lobby Adobe to release a Adobe Digital Edition client with build in DRM support, either by themselves or someone else.
You could send emails to Bill McCoy from Adobe bmccoy(*at*)adobe.com, explaining the situation and ask for focus on that specific hole in Adobes business plan to spread the Adobe Digital Editions platform. McCoy is the public figure at Adobe when it comes the Adobe Digital Editions/mobile devices integration.
Ok, so let's make it clear. Six month ago, you announced that you will support ADE, and for ever since, you said (when you said something) that the support will be comming "soon". And now, the support isn't comming "soon" anymore, but "may" come later. So are you still sticking with your "being bought by Amazon didn't change anything on our timeline" ?
It's been six month since you announced Adobe Digital Editions will be available "soon". Perhaps we have a different understanding of the meaning of soon, by I think it's been a pretty long time. Any news now?
Of course I did, and they all tend to conclude the same thing : will never happen. And as the team refuses to be specific on the subjects, I don't see how we can predict anything else
Was wondering the same... public libraries around the country have Adobe Digital Editions available for free check out (much as a regular library works). It'd be great to read them on the i-devices!
I did see a press release from back in Feb. announcing this!
At this point in time, we are
At this point in time, we are not supporting the Adobe DRM solution. This decision will be evaluated on a regular basis as we move forward.
We will continue to support DRM-free EPUB formatted books as well as DRM-free and DRM-enabled eReader (PDB) formatted books.

4 threads allready...
Have you read the other three threads on the subject yet?
Unfortunately yes
Of course I did, and they all tend to conclude the same thing : will never happen. And as the team refuses to be specific on the subjects, I don't see how we can predict anything else
Kind of honnest
In fact, they were kind of honest in the blog post announcing the acquisition by Amazon when they stated :
"We are not planning any changes in the Stanza application or user experience as a result of the acquisition."
Indeed, they haven't changed a thing. Congrats!
Adobe and Stanza-- anything happening?

Could you now predict more precisely a new release for Adobe Digital Editions?
We don't yet have a specific
We don't yet have a specific timeframe for the release, but we hope "soon".
