Help with Converting .DOC Files

When trying to convert any .DOC on my MAC, Stanza strips all pictures, formatting, etc. Sometimes even changes spelling. I am a new user, but pretty adept at other document conversion tools. What am I missing?

Stanza's 'conversion' is more text extraction with some heuristics to re-apply proper formatting.

That is correct. You might want to try it out with Calibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/), which sometimes does a better job with preserving formatting.
