I just bought a new Ipod touch, looking for a good PDF reader especially for technical books to read on the train. I was suprise there are barely any software out there until I came across this. This looks good, but I use Windows at home/work. Besides a Mac, any other way to use the software? Or is there a time frame for a Windows version?
problem opening any file format in Windows Stanza
Whether I'm loading a pdf, lit, or other file (yes, I tried a 2 line text file too). And nothing is open with similar symptoms as seen by AnthonyDe. "I open a .lit file, and I get a momentary "LOADING" text, then my page file usage maxes out and my CPU usage goes to 100%. This seems to last as long as I let it. I have to force close the application to recover." In task manager I see another app labeled the same as Stanza (file name trying to open) with a default icon. I was unable to bring this forward to see if it was a window waiting for some input.
Lit file I used was one from baen books. I'm running on a compaq n800c laptop with windows xp, sp2, 768 megs ram, a 1.7 processor with a ati mobile 7500 video card.
problem opening any file format in Windows Stanza
Agree; same problem. Running a Lenovo X61 Thinkpad with Vista. Trying to load a .txt file. Get a loading message and then after a few seconds everything hangs and nothing loads. Have tried it with a number of text files and the problem is the same in each case.
We're working on tracking
We're working on tracking down this problem, and we expect to release another beta very soon which, even if doesn't directly fix the problem, will at least provide additional information about the possible cause. Thank you for the reports, and we hope to get it fixed soon!
We believe we have fixed this
We believe we have fixed this problem with Stanza beta 11. Please upgrade and let us know if the problem persists.
We are working hard on
We are working hard on getting a Windows version available as soon as possible. We can't give a specific estimate of the timeframe, so well have to just leave it at "soon".
Is soon like days or weeks
Is soon like days or weeks soon, or soon like month or months soon?
I'm sorry, but we just can't
I'm sorry, but we just can't make any concrete estimates. Delays are in the nature of software development, and we don't want to make any promises we can't keep.
Rest assured, the Windows version is a top priority for us.
waiting for windows
waiting for windows account...
does stanza convert the file
does stanza convert the file when using the desktop software? I uploaded a .lit file via a folder and it doesn't read it. any idea?
The Stanza iPhone application
The Stanza iPhone application only supports books in the Open eBook/ePub format. Stanza Desktop is the application that handles conversion from other formats to ePub for the iPhone client to read.
Can't wait...
I definitely can not wait for the windows version.
:)
Wait no longer!

Problem opening .lit?
Installed O.K., I open a .lit file, and I get a momentary "LOADING" text, then my page file usage maxes out and my CPU usage goes to 100%. This seems to last as long as I let it. I have to force close the application to recover.
Same issue with .epub.
Are you able to open anything
Are you able to open anything at all, even a simple small text file?
And would it be possible to send one of the offending files to support@lexcycle.com so we can try to reproduce it?
Nope..
Afraid not. Even a small two line text file hangs it. I'll send you the files as requested.
Same Thing Here
Stanza beta 10 goes up to 1.5 GB of RAM and 100% CPU when I try to load a three line text file. WinXP Pro SP2 with IE6.
Had same problem
I was having the same issue on Windows XP sp 3. Opening any type of file would result in the CPU and page file maxing out and the program would then exit. After upgrading from IE 6 to IE 7 the problem went away.
