I have a number of recipes I have downloaded from the net in pdf format. I have used stanza to convert to the kindle. they show up on my list of documents on the kindle but when I open them I get a message that they cannot be opened.
I tested the same files by sending them to amazon for conversion and absolutely no problem opening them on the kindle.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to the Stanza problem??? Thanks!
Just can't open the files in my Kindle.
First, I tried exporting it as a Kindle file. No luck. It says it is an unsupported format. then, I tried both what you suggest here (to convert first to txt) AND also, separately, to convert it directly to Mobi. I got the same "unsupported format" message for all three efforts. Both times, it led to my being unable to open any files on my Kindle until I did a reset.
Any other suggestions? Thanks.
While there are some
While there are some shortcomings in our support for PDFs, it is rare that the file will be simply un-openable.
If you open the PDF in Stanza Desktop, do you see the text of the recipes at all, or is it blank?
Also, can you try again with Stanza 1.0 beta 8 (which was just released last night)? We made some improvements to the PDF reading, so you might have a better experience.
If none of those things help, and if the PDF is something you are comfortable sharing with us, can you mail it to support@lexcycle.com so we can take a look at what the problem might be?
still not working
downloaded the newest stanza version. brought up a pdf file (shows fine in stanza), exported as a kindle file (.azw) and put it in my kindle document folder. shows up on the menu but when i click to open get again the message "the selected item could not be opened." If I send the same pdf to amazon for conversion, it opens in the kindle with no problem. any ideas what the issue might be? do I need a .azw file and a mobiprc file for the kindle to read it?
Could you try one more thing?
Could you try one more thing? Try exporting the PDF as a plain text file in Stanza, then re-opening it in Stanza and then exporting it as Amazon Kindle and see if that is any different. The additional conversion might fix glitches that might be in the direct PDF to Kindle conversion.
It worked - Thanks Marc
I converted to .txt and then into kindle format and it worked beautifully. Thanks so much for the t.a.!!!!
while there are some
when I convert the file in Stanza I get the full document. But when I convert to kindle and move the file into the kindle documents on the kindle while it shows up on my menu in the kindle when i open it I get a message that it can't be opened. I also tried converting it not only in the kindle format but the mobi format as well but neither will open in the kindle. But I will try the beta 8 and let you know.
