Stanza for Windows released

We are happy to announce that the first beta of Stanza for Windows is now available for download at:

http://www.lexcycle.com/download-windows

As this is the first beta release for Windows, there will be some problems and issues, but the core functionality of reading, converting books between formats, and sharing with Stanza iPhone/iPod Touch is all there.

Please use the support forums to report problems, ask questions, or share user experiences.

freezing and uploading to the iphone

iphone version 2.0.1. Installed stanza for windows. Everytime i go to file open a lit/txt it freezes and "loading" message persists. Then need to end task on "javaw", which is using 100% of cpu usage. Possibly a fix in the near future?
-also, i wanted to inquire if there is a way to upload multiple books at once to the iphone using Stanza, as i have been collecting books for sometime and have hundreds in txt and lit format?, thanks.

We have gotten a couple

We have gotten a couple reports of this, and we are trying to track it down. Can you provide us with some more details?

1. What is your operating system (e.g., XP SP2, Vista, etc)?
2. When you installed Stanza, do you recall if it prompted you to install Java?
3. Have you tried loading the book after rebooting your computer?
4. If you open Stanza and select "Help"->"About Lexcycle Stanza", what do you see?
5. What version of Internet Explorer do you have installed (if any)?

Also, regarding copying multiple books, there is currently no batch download feature, but you are able to have multiple simultaneous windows open with separate books that can be synchronized. Also, the next version of Stanza iPhone will have the ability to simultaneously downloading multiple books, so you won't have to wait until one book is downloaded before downloading the next.

No, i was not prompted

Yes, 2X but problem persists

I do not see the image but the version is 1.0.0-beta9 build #1:314, Beta version - expires Oct 4, 2008.
From the System Informaton:
-Operating System - Windows XP x86 5.1
-Java version - Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_07
-Memory 5MB total, 1 MB free, 196MB max
5. What version of Internet Explorer do you have installed (if any)?

Library for Windows

Is there a way with the current version, (Which loaded and works perfect so far, on my Windows Vista system), to get a library of books that I have to show up and be able to be loaded onto the ipod touch, I can only seem to be able to load one book at a time on the PC then get Stanza on the Ipod touch to download it.

There is no support currently

There is no support currently for opening an entire library, but note that you should be able to open multiple books in Stanza Desktop, which will open them in separate windows. This should allow you to more easily synchronize multiple books with Stanza iPhone, although it will still be tedious to synchronize dozens of books.

We expect to have a solution for this issue in the future.

Thanks a lot for this release, I've been waiting for it! Everything seems to be working fine on the desktop, however I can't access my library from my iPhone. It is definitely on the same network, and I have even disabled my routers firewall to no avail. Any help at all would be most appreciated!

FIXED!: Uninstalled and reinstalled bonjour, Working fine!

We're glad to hear that re-installing Bonjour resolved the problem for you. Can you let us know if you got any kind of error message when you tried to enable sharing, or did the Stanza instance simply not show up on your iPhone?

I did receive an error

I did receive an error message. I can't remember it word for word and don't want to try to replicate it, but it was referring to an existing instance of Bonjour.

not working.

When I open Stanza, and open a .pdf, nothing shows up. Opening a .txt, yields the same results. Any ideas? Ill re install it.

nothing showing up

I have this problem as well but only on certain files. I have successfully downloaded and can read one book so far but all the other books I have tried to open just show up as blank. Have tried to resave the files as different formats and get the same result. Have not tried all of my files but all but one has not shown anything but a blank screen with no other pages. I'm running Windows Vista Home and have the latest versions of the desktop, bonjour, java, and ipod reader. Can you give me any suggestions or advice.

Regarding the "Addresss already in use" error, that arises when you have multiple instances of Stanza running on the same machine. We are going to try to address that problem in a future release.

Regarding the failure to load the books, can you let us know the answer to the questions listed at http://www.lexcycle.com/forums/stanza/stanza_windows_release#comment-272 ?

Hi get all the error messages

Hi get all the error messages described above, so I can't use Stanza Desktop at all.
I tried loading dofferent files and the result is:

- for .doc - error code Could not load book: Java.Lang.ClassCastException:Java.Lang.String cannot be cast to Java.Util.Date
- for .rtf - nothing happens and Stanza freezes
- for .pdf - nothing happens and Stanza freezes
- for .prc - nothing happens and Stanza freezes

I also tried to enable sharing and get the error .java.net.BindException: Addresss already in use: JVM_Bind

I tried "repairing" Bonjour without success.

Regarding information needed:

also having trouble with

Im also having trouble with Quotation marks. They dont seem to be recognized in Stanza Desktop.
