21 Cool iPhone Apps - Stanza

iPhone Feature Requests

Thanks so much for creating the iPhone edition of this software. It has become my favorite document reader. I do have two feature requests for future iterations of the iPhone software.

1: I'd like a preference to allow for returning to the last open document and page upon launch of Stanza. Currently the requirement of tapping through the lists to get to the currently open document is cumbersome, particularly when you have to use the iPhone "Settings" App for every little preference change. I'd like to open Stanza and have my current book open to my last page read as an option.

2: I'd like the the option to change the page reverse and advance screen taps to include top of page and bottom of page taps. If I'm holding the iPhone in one hand, particularly the left hand, it is easier to flip pages forward and back by tapping at the top or bottom of the screen rather than by reaching across the screen to do the right hand tap on the screen.

I would also like to add my voice requesting the option of an autoscroll as well. (I've voted in the Poll.)

Thanks again for the awesome document reader and I appreciate having the forum to search for and request help.\

Cheers

Jon

saving notes and annotations for later use

ONe of the features on ereader (for palm) that was very important to my reading was being able to save all my notes and annotations into one document file.

If stanza cannot do this, it should in the future. Then students and researcher could highlight and compile quotations (with pages from edoc) into one place for future use in papers etc.

Man, I need this and miss it very much in these new iphone/itouch readers!!!

Thanks
Anne

Saving Annotations

I completely agree with this request. It is a major improvement that must be present in a new version. I use stanza mainly for reading books for the public concourses I am taking and having my annotations and quotations in a single file would be great.
I love this app. Thanks very much.

Book covers

This may seem really petty, especially since Stanza is the absolute best.

I would like to be able to find more choices for the book covers. I know there is the option to search the Web, but seldom are covers actually found. Yet, if I Google the book, I can find infinitely more covers than Stanza offers.

BTW, Stanza is so great I've convinced a friend to buy an ITouch, just she can use Stanza.

You might want to try using

You might want to try using Calibre rather than Stanza for the ebook-management facility. Amongst other capabilities it provides comprehensive facilities for searching for covers and also allows you to provide cover images manually.

Since it also includes a built-in web server for exposing any books managed by Calibre for as a catalog that can be used by Stanza on the iPhone/iTouch it works particularily well with them.

"publish" with underlining, and either font color or highting

I'm working on a big edit project...an edition of the King James Bible no less. The whole purpose of the edition is to delineate different content, so I need to be able to underline text, and either control the font color or highlight selected text (think red letter bible). Also, I haven't found a way to present a chart of information.

Frustration

I'm new to Stanza and am just learning. If I'm grumbling about something I missed excuse me.

First, I find that loading books from my computer is difficult and cumbersome.

Second, when I sync, the books I uploaded went away.

DocsToGo is better, but it lacks bookmarking capability. I'm going back to my Palm until something changes.

My request is that either make it easier to upload books or upload more than one at a time. Oh, pick up the filename. I don't know where it gets the title, but most of mine come up "Unknown".

Thanks

There are multiple ways to

There are multiple ways to upload books as mentioned in the FAQ. Some of them allow for bulk upload.

I have never heard of the issue where a sync causes uploaded books to disappear. It should be the other way around - a sync preserves the books in case your iPhone/iTouch crashes.

The information about author, etc is not picked up from the filename but from the metadata emebedded in the file. Although it is possible to manipulate this metadata using Stanza Desktop a much friendlier and more powerful tool for doing this is the (free) Calibre e-book management system. Calibre can also handle the conversion to ePub format if your books are not already in this format.

Let me add files other than ".epub" via USB

As you know, we can add books into stanza via USB, which is great, especially for me as I have no WiFi, and I have an ipod touch, so no 3G/EDGE/GPRS either.

But, stanza only allows me to add ".epub" files. I know that Stanza Desktop application comes with an inbuilt converter, but that erases all the formatting. I lose the "italics" and "bold" text. Which is something I rather not like. So, please, Stanza, if its possible could you let me add ".lit" files via USB as well, as most of my ebooks are in that format

There is not much point as

There is not much point as the iPhone/iTouch version of Stanza cannot handle other formats - you first have to convert them to ePub.

You can do this using Stanza desktop and export the results. That should not erase the formatting (even though it is not displayed in the Desktop version).

An alternative which I personally use is to use Calibre to do all the conversion to ePub. Handles a much wider format of conversion types than Stanza desktop and on the whole does a better job of the conversion.

For The Addicted Reader...

Firstly I'd like to say that Stanza is terrific

I would like to make the following requests (Please forgive me if any of these exist, I have been unable to find/google them)

1. Ability to List by Book Series, or have the ability to see the book series number without having to change the book title to *series name number - book title*, or hunt for it.

2. To see if a book has been read/unread. (After 1,000 books the titles aren't enough to remember if I have, ot havent)

3. I was wondering if it was possible to change the Header Title font too? The standard font is easily changed, but is annoying to have the book name and chapter number take a whole page. (Especially if I'm trying to read something I don't want others to see ;-P)

4. I understand that bulk uploading has been requested numerous times and is not functional (yet), but is there some way we could dump all our books into the Ipod storage area/stanza folder and have the programme read it from there? Having to reload 1,000+ books back in after an IPOD crash/reload is really depressing. And Calibre can be a fickle mistress.

Number 4. is already

Number 4. is already available by being able to bulk upload epub files to a specific location on the iPhone/iTouch - read the FAQ for the details.

The whole

The whole open-each-individual-book-to-transfer option is a pain. Why can't the Stanza Desktop application have an iTunes-style library browser? I'd like to add books, create collections, add cover art, edit descriptions, and more.

Online Pharmacy

You could try using Calibre

You could try using Calibre instead of Stanza desktop? It has much richer functionality.

As well as all the ebook management and conversion it also has a built-in web server that supports Stanza style catalogs so you can easily browse and bulk download to the iPhone.

A few more features and STANZA will be perfect.

Hello!

First of all, I would like to congradulate you upon the development of such a good iPod app. I noticed a few drawbacks of your application and thought I could suggeest you a few things, so here goes:

• The 'TEXT DETAIL' could have had a cut-copy-paste interface so that one can lookup meanings from a dictionary app.
• The inclusion of an inbuilt offline dictionary would also be greately appreciated.
• The cut-copy-paste in the 'ANNOTATION' part could have a definite use too.
• The concept of e-book sharing via Bluetooth and/or wifi is greately appealing and I would appriciate if you include this feature into your reader as well.
• The autoscroll and save-your-own-theme features would work out great.
• The inclusion of more fonts and font borders would enhance the visiblity on a few other backgrounds involving a lot of colors.
• The iPod to PC book transfer via Bluetooth and/or wifi or Google Docs would be amazing.
• The option of text editing while in the 'TEXT DETAIL' mode would make an excellent option in the reader

Long Delay While Loading Book

Stanza is a great application; thanks a lot!! I'm used to using eReader - been using it for years on my Palm PDA. But Stanza is clearly the way to go on the iPod Touch. I love that I only need one reader application for so many formats!

I just have one request - I'd like to see a more timely method of figuring out the number of pages.

For example, when loading the current book I'm reading there is a lengthy delay which locks up the program- I cannot turn pages while Stanza figures out how many pages there are, as I could with eReader.

Can the page count happen behind the scenes, please? I'd much rather be able to start reading right away and know in a couple of minutes what page I'm on or how many there are to go.

Thanks again! - Dave

PS: The book I'm referring to has 2288 pages but all my "large" books have this delay before I can turn a page. This situation occurs each and every time I open the book; whether Stanza already has it loaded when I open the program or not. I hope this additional info helps. Thanks again!

PPS: Further investigation reveals that this seems to occur when the entire book loads; when the PDB book loads in it's entirety rather than being broken up into chapters or small sections. Some of my ebooks seem pretty well behaved when loading. I wonder what causes this and what, if anything, can be done about it.

Hmmm... the plot thickens, if you'll pardon the expression.

Number of pages

First let me thank you on my knees for this awfull app!
The only thing which I miss (from a book of paper) is its number of pages. I can't know how thick is the book before picking it.
Actually it's just an idea to make Stanza better than perfect!

When you tap the centre of

When you tap the centre of the screen it tells you how far you are through the book.

There is also the (very thin) progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

I know how helpfull it is,

I know how helpfull it is, but i would like the NUMBER of pages. If I may.

Lock out screen rotation

I know Stanza/iPhone already has a setting to "freeze" the screen rotation. But it apparently adopts (and freezes) whatever rotation it finds when the app is launched.

I would like to be able to lock it to my choice of rotation and have it ALWAYS use it, regardless of the physical orientation of the iPhone.

Basically it freezes in the

Basically it freezes in the orientation when the book is opened - not the orientation at Stanza launch (unless you are automatically re-opening the last book read at launch time). Therefore it can easily be changed by exiting back to the library level, changing the orientation and then going back into the book.

However, I agree an option to freeze the orientation of all books to a specific orientation might be nice.

Please add "Sort in order loaded (or added)"

I would love to have the ability to Sort my books in the order I load them onto my iPod Touch.

Many times, I have a series of books that are either multi author series's or a series of books where the first book is on it's own and the next one is part of an anthology.

I would love to have the option to read my books in the order I put them on my Touch. This would also help with a previous comment I saw about the number in a series being stripped out of a book's title. If you loaded the books onto your Touch in the correct order of the series, and then had the ability to Sort in the order book was loaded) maybe call it Sort in order of Install.... We all could continue to read our books in the order we want.

support's picture

There is a "Date Added"

There is a "Date Added" option in the sort menu in the upper-right corner of book lists. That sounds like it would do what you want.

Autoscrolling

Autoscrolling seems to be in most of ebook readers out there, its sad to see that wonderfull feature in other apps which are not nearly as nice as stanza. Please add this great feature!!

Desired features . .

Please, please add up/down scrolling and flicking, just like most iPhone apps - apart from the difficulty of going from one page to the next (or, even harder, to the previous page, assuming you are right handed!) with one hand using the current left-right page turning, when you have been using another app to read any text the natural instinct is to scroll and up down, not left-to-right

Also please add an option to open any book at its table of contents - it's fine to open a book where you left off if you are reading a novel, but if it is a reference book of any sort you want to see the ToC first.

Otherwise, thanks for a 5-star wonderful product!

Secure Mobipocket

Please add support for secure Mobipocket files.

smooth scrolling

I'd really like smooth scrolling.
No pages, (and no headers, footers, and stuff other stuff that was invented to cope with the inadequacies of paper and ink, which is no longer relevant (except that some people still like it)).

Annotation

I finally downloaded Stanza for the iPhone after reading about the addition of the ability annotate text. Some ideas on how build on what you already have:
1) make it easier to access the annotation menu
2) When I add an annotation to the text I'd like quote/page number as the name of the annotation.
3) Most importantly, the ability to export the annotation either to Stanza desktop or as an email. There really is no point in users spending time annotation text, when the notes cannot be used later when on back on a PC/Mac. I want to be able to view my notes when I get home and use them later.

Stanza Desktop could also use support in the area as well. Other than that I love the app.

Export Annotations

+1

3) Most importantly, the ability to export the annotation either to Stanza desktop or as an email. There really is no point in users spending time annotation text, when the notes cannot be used later when on back on a PC/Mac. I want to be able to view my notes when I get home and use them later.

I wonder why developers has

I wonder why developers has disabled function of copy/paste while adding annotation. For example, I want to copy text from book to notes: I tap, select annotate, then just select all annotation text and copy it. But now I can only select text - there is no popup with copy/paste options; so this selection is useless.

Sound

I love the new page turning animation, but it seems a little hollow without sound. could there be an optional set of page turning sounds? I think it would make the app feel richer

AutoScroll

Thank you for the new update. I was just wondering is autoscroll a 2.0 feature? Stanza is the best ebook reader out there, but it needs autoscroll!

Thanks again for the great work!

Wonderful piece fo software- thank you

The main feature request that I have, coming from the excellent Plucker on the Palm, is an AUTOSCROLL so I don't have to keep tapping the screen every few seconds.

Thanks again- this really is very good.

7/16 Update: Page Turn Controls Problem

Unfortunately this latest version of Stanza has added "improved" page turn animations at the expense of allowing the user to disable the horizontal page turn swipes. It used to be that selecting page taps disabled swipes but not any more. Please add this ability back.

I have always used both page

I have always used both page taps and swipes simultaneously, so I do not remember swipes being disabled in previous versions. I like to have my system set up so that both left and right page taps act as page forward (which is by far the most common action) and having both act like that can be convenient if reading with one hand. I then revert to swipes if I want to go backwards/forwards to find something specific.

Please Fix Sorting

Do you remember the cartoon "The Far Side"? In one of the book collections, he put an index in the back It consisted of:

A

B

C

...etc. with nothing under any of the letters. Finally, you get to "T", and every single comic in the book was there as "The one about the cows", "The one about the aliens", and so forth.

It was a funny gag, but not a very useful index. Please, please, PLEASE fix sorting in Stanza -- sorting "The Count of Monte Cristo" under "The" is a ridiculous mistake for a program of this sort.

Authors have the same problem. "Mark Twain" goes under "T", not "M".

voice synthesis

The feature I'm requesting is a voice synthesis option that allows designated text to be read by an open source (or not) voice synthesiser (or multiple types). The one app I know that does this (Read2Me) does a bad job. Coupled with the Stanza library this could be a powerful feature.

Thanks for your consideration.

PLEASE ADD HIGHLIGHTING Feature in DIFFERENT COLORS

Underlining is one thing, I prefer highlighting. eReader lets you highlight in any of 4 colors for different readers or for different purposes (vocabulary in yellow, important passages in lavendar, key points in red... )
How 'bout it folks?

Also, I just downloaded the desktop version - what good is it? You can't browse or download books, you can't transfer books from iPhone, so... what can you do? Really! I have no idea.

The Desktop version allows

The Desktop version allows you to read ebooks on your PC/Mac. A lot of people seem to use it for that.

It also supports conversion of ebooks to a format that can be used by Stanza on the iPhone/iTouch.

Originally it was also the only way to tansfer ebooks to the iPhone/iTouch variant of Stanza, although other options are now available.

Having said that, I no lnger use the Desktop version of Stanza as I use the Calibre software for all my ebook library management and format convesion.

Originally? You mean Stanza

Originally? You mean Stanza didn't always have wifi downloading of books directly to the i-devices?

I thought that was there from day one! AFAIK, you never needed the desktop version at all for getting reading material onto an i-device!

In-App Purchase

I would love to have an in-app purchase model for the iPhone app o it would be easier to buy books

A problem with OS 3.0

Hi,
I have been using Stanza on my 2.2.1 iPod 1G for a few months and was quite satisfied. Today I upgraded my iPod to firmware 3.0 and installed Stanza. It behaves quite normally while opening English documents. But when I open Arabic documents it is badly slow. For example opening an Arabic book or changing the font size by pinching in that book may take 30 seconds. This same book was opened whithin 5 seconds on firmware 2.2.1, so the problem is not related to long chapters.

Best regards,
A. Ziaebrahimi

Sharing books via Bluetooth

Another thing that I just thought of that would be really handy to have now that Apple have opened things up a bit is to be able to send a book to another iPhone Stanza user via bluetooth. Obviously this would have to be a DRM free book but I wouldn't think that would be up to Stanza to have to check. If I choose to transmit a DRM version of an ebook the other person would not be able to open it on their device, but a DRM free book or document (I sometime create my own) could be easily tranmitted and shared.

+! vote for this

With the advent of OS 3.0, I would LOVE to see this feature added as well. I understand that it could only be for non-DRM'ed books, but being able to share my own documents with a friend via the new peer-to-peer functionality would be awesome!

Ability to mark books as "Read" and book summaries

Thanks for a fantastic ebook reader. I have used a few in the past and now almost exclusively use Stanza. The only time that I need to change is if I want to read certain DRM locked ebooks, but since I read most of my books from Baen I don't usually have to worry about DRM (thanks Baen!! I wish more publishers would take your view on DRM).

Anyway, I have scanned through all the comments to date in this post and I have seen a few other people asking for the same thing that I am. With the amount of storage space that I have available on my iPhone I have taken to keeping all my books on the phone. The problem is that as the number of books has increased it has become more and more difficult to keep track of which ones I have read and which ones I haven't. I know Emily suggested creating collections called something along the lines of "Read" and "Unread" and then manually adding and subtracting books from these colections as you read them, but this will be quite a burdensome manner of keeping track of this.

Could you consider adding a method of flagging a book as read and having a visual indicator of some kind in all the category views, including the main Library view. This way I can always see which books I have read and which ones I haven't regarless of what category/collection I have placed them in or have had them automatically placed in (eg. Authors).

It would have to be a manual user action to set the "Read" flag too as I wouldn't really want an automated algorithm trying to figure out if I had actually read the book or if I had instead just opened it and scrolled through a bit or even to the end and then closed it again without reading the whole thing at that time. Maybe add a "Read" switch control to the Library/Edit/Book Edit screen where I can already edit Title & Author, Cover Image, Subjects and Collections as well as Delete the book.

I don't know if it would work to use some sort of icon or maybe just a pale background shading to each book read book entry. I can picture a pale 20% blue shading for read books and the standard white background as being quite effective in the list view as it would enable someone to very quickly and easily identify books that had been read and ones that had not without being too intrusive to the text and cover thumbnail. I find I hardly ever use the coverflow view as I find the list view much faster to flick through so I'm not sure how you could indicate read books there in a clean way - maybe a pixel or two white border around read book covers would work.

The other thing I would love to see support for in the list view is the ability to quickly read the book summary that is often included (at least in EPUB versions). I can currently read this summary by opening the book and then tapping the middle of the screen and then tapping the (i) icon. I would like to be able to go in and out of the summary from the list view of the Library/Titles or Library/Authors/[Author] screen when I am looking for the next book to read.

I can see something along the lines of touching the blue (>) of a book entry taking me to the same summary/cover design that I can reach through the (i) icon in the book as touching that part of the book entry in the list view does not currently appear to have any action associated with it.

Thanks again for a great application.

PS. Love your integration with Baen Webscriptions and My Books. Fantastic!!

Collection - library

Hi
Like other users I would like a library or collection function that enables you to transfer a selection of books to your iphone.

I often need to have a few work texts, books and documents available and for pleasure I like to have a selection of text files and ebooks.

In addition it would be good to be able to specify a folder on your hard drive (pc) that you can select your personally stored ebooks and , pdf, pdb and text files.

At the moment every time I add a single book it creates new line in the shared books rather than storing the books that I have tried to read from my iphone.

I need an ebook reader that doesn't only require me to download files through its system as I have multiple books and files that have been obtained other the years.

Regards.

Sorting of Series and total number of pages

I posted these suggestions in another thread - figure I should add them to the official 'feature suggestion' thread:

I would like to see better sorting - especially for series.

With Stanza there is really no way to know which number a given book is in a series (or even which, if any, series a book is part of).

ereader keeps the series name and book number as part of the title - even though it looks messy, at least I know which book comes next in the series. With Stanza, the series name and book number gets stripped out after downloading - I have no idea which book starts the series or comes next.

This is especially an issue if you download an entire series from the get go, instead of one book at a time. Ideally there would be separate tags filled in automatically based on the book's title. For example, all the series I have have the same title format - [ Book ]. I would think it would be easy to automatically populate a series and a book number tag based on this format (this format is from fictionwise, not sure if others are the same or different).

And then add ability to sort at multiple levels, for example - by author, then series, then book number

Would also love to see the total number of pages in a book (please also keep the current chapter page numbering functionality). I know that Stanza only paginates a chapter at a time, but it must somehow have some idea of how long a book is if it can display percentage complete. Maybe it is just me, but I like to know how much of a time investment a given book is going to be and total number of pages is the best way to do it.

Stanza is a great product as it is. Hope these suggestions will be considered.

YES to page count!

I too would love to see the full page count. This is one of the things that kills stanza for me compared to eReader.

Even an approximation would be good -- It's not a problem if it says 600 pages left and there's really only 594.... though I would expect the approximation to get better as I get closer to the end.

I would also like to keep the

I would also like to keep the series name and book number. It was a real surprise when I load a few books and had no idea of series and number. I now have to use one or two books at a time so I don't get mixed up.

hmmm, I must have used some

hmmm, I must have used some special characters as the format of the book title did not come through. Try again:

"Book Name" ["series name" Book "book number"]

Icon Badge for percent read

I know that Stanza wouldn't need to have an icon badge for notifications, but would it be possible to put in the option for an icon badge that shows the percentage of the book you have already read? That way, on my home screen, if I see a 46 badge, I know I'm 46% through the currently active book.

Just a thought...

There is already a feature

There is already a feature like this. When you look at your booklist in latest reads, you'll see each book is underlines by a grey progress bar, that indicates how much you've read.

on the icon too

Yeah, I know you can see it within the Stanza app like that, my request was for a badge (optional of course) that would appear when you are OUTSIDE of stanza, which represents the percent completion of the current book you are reading.

So, like the email app shows a badge with how many unread emails you have, Stanza would show a badge on the percentage completion.

I know not everyone would want this, so have it off by default, and then let me turn it on in the options. Thanks!

Hey look at that.

I was about to ask for the same thing.

The indicator is subtle. Actually, a bit too subtle -- such things shouldn't need an instruction manual, eh? I think I prefer eReader's "clock face" indicator.

Still, nice to know it's there.

thanks for pointing that out

I never noticed the grey lines. that is great. I really wanted a way to tell which books I've already read or how far I am into a given book. Awesome.

Export back from iPhone to Mac

I've got a lot of books on my iPhone where I've edited the titles, authors, or added covers, but there's no way to get these titles back to my computer (usually this is to correct misspellings or change all caps to correct casing, but sometimes the author field is unknown). I'd really like a way to sync my iPhone's books back to my computer.

Also, can I turn off the instruction screen that comes up as the first page of every new book?

THANKS FOR "STANZA" BUT... I NEED UNDERLINE!!!!

Hey guys, thank you for your very usefull application but.... I NEED TO UNDERLINE THE TEXT!!!!

I study with stanza, I check many text (I work as Art director for many magazine), but every time I must to remember me what frase was not correct, bookmarks is ok for find the page but not for sign the error!

PLEASE PUT THAT SERVICE AND YOU WILL BE PERFECT!

Best Regards

Highlighting and notes

Highlighting and notes would be very useful -- especially as you link to technical books (O'Reilly) for sale.

YES!! Underlining/Highlighting is my dream!!!

It would be great if we could highlight/underline text, particularly with different colors. Obviously a toggle to turn them on/off would be nice too.

Also, I love to write in the margins of books. It's the most efficient way to record my thoughts when reading, and explains *why* I underlined certain parts of the text. It would be great if the notes could be typed in landscape mode.

Imagine how useful it would be if the highlighted snippets, and related notes, could be synced with the desktop application. Or uploaded to a webserver where the notes/excerpts could be searched & indexed. If you lose the file or phone, at least the most important parts & notes would be archived. I'm sure students would love this feature when reading books and sharing info w/classmates. Particularly if they can transfer the notes to another iPhone user via wifi.

Top and Bottom Taps, please

Stanza is a great product, but one of the reasons I often use BookZ instead (to read plaintext books) is that in BookZ the pages are turned using top and bottom taps rather than right-left taps. Having a bottom tap to advance the page allows me to hold the iPhone in one hand and advance pages by tapping the bottom of the screen with my thumb. Trying to do this with a right tap often confuses the iPhone, as reaching across to tap the right side of the screen with your thumb often causes the base of the thumb to hit the left side of the screen, paging backwards instead.

One other thing: It took me forever to find out where the navigation controls were in the settings. I really didn't notice the three tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. Stanza

I'm in the same boat. Stanza is a phenomenal app but it just needs a few tweaks to really let it come into it's own. Please consider adding the above requested feature. I'm sure we are not alone in this. Anyone else care to jump in on this one?
--
Gregg - unclaimed cash

You know that ypou can

You know that you can configure in Stanza what happens when you hit the left/right tap zones?

On the basis that I rarely go backwards I have mine configured that both left and right taps act as page forward. If I DO need to go backward I use the swipe action. that makes it much easier for one-handed operation whichever hand I am holding my iPhone in.

No taps for me :)

I turn off *all* taps, as when I read my finger frequently rests on the edge of the scren, and I kept getting "false taps" when I was still on a page.

All taps are turned off for me -- I only use page swipes. :)

Animations

I want Stanza to be able to accept animations. My daughter uses the Stanza app on the iPod touch and she would love the illustrations function so she can upload her school books, this application is viable because it does not show illustrations. Please listen to your customers and make illustrations possible in Stanza. I have noticed that many many customers want this app to have illustrations on the iPod touch. I would appreciate it if you would make this possible for your customers. Thank you for reading this request. Thank you. Yours sincerely Miss Leeanna Thomas

how do your daughter upload her textbook?

I am just wondering how she does that? Is her book in digital form?

I AM DISABLED AND NEED AUTO SCOLL FUNCTION PLEASE!!

I am a disabled person and I use my iPod Touch to read. I have Stanza and it is my favourite app for reading but as I have disabilities using my hands I need a auto scoll function. I do not want to leave Stanza but I am going to have to if I can not use the manual scroll function. My daughter has wrote this request for myself, I am only 35 and I love to read it is the only pleasure I have left. My daughter explained to myself that there is a large number if customers who are using Stanza asking for the auto scroll function. Please listen to your customers and make this request possible. I would like to thank you for reading my proposal. Thank you. Yours sincerely Miss Leeanna Thomas

Sync audio book with text

Hi all,

First off, I love Stanza :)

That being said, I also love audiobooks. It would be great if I could sync the two, ie:

Stop reading the book at 32.5 % in Stanza, then continue it in Music at 32%.
Step on your bike and listen to audiobook ('till 40%), when back in the train continue reading in Stanza (starting at 39.5%).

I like reading in Stanza as it goes faster then listening to the audiobook :P But at the same time, I'd like to continue listening/reading while walking/biking.

Thanks for listening,

M

Neat, but probably not feasible

That's actually a really interesting idea. The problem is that it would require the publishers to put in some sort of "tagging" so that the two formats could be compared. As far as the computer (iPhone) is concerned, audio and text are two completely different things.

I generally have one book I'm listening to, and a different book I'm reading. It works pretty well.

Tibetan font

Can you help me load Tibetan font to read buddhist text in unicode. Tibetan fonts are used in Tibet, China, Burma, Mongolia, Bhutan, Sikkim, India.

I tired to upload document but would not display in format that I can read.

fonts are esama, Tibetan Machine font-unicode. tcrc-youmtso.

Choose a dictionary

it would be extremely helpful to be able to choose the dictionary invoked when checking a definition: I read books in different languages and when I read in Russian for example, the English dictionary is useless. Ideally I would import dictionaries in dict format freely (as in WeDict, for example) and then select which dictionary I use at any given time. Thanks is advance.

Choose web based dictionary.

Another way to do this would be to be able to use a web dictionary (answers.com or dictionary.com for example.)
Stanza would have a config field where you put the URL of the web dictionary you want to use.

I, too, would love to be able

I, too, would love to be able to choose the dictionary Stanza uses, or at least to have access to a French dictionary. Thanks!

TTS native to iphone app (I would pay $$) for this

I know that there is a way to convert a novel to mp3 via the desktop but it would be very cool it TTS was built into the stanza iphone app so that it would just start speaking the audio book at whatever page you were on. I would pay $$ for this feature (I think this would be good starting point of segmenting a free Stanza app versus a paid app). I know to get the voices from AT&T, Loquendo and Acapela requires money but they are available for the iPhone. It would be so cool to have my ebook read to me (i.e. listen to it) while I am walking or driving but when I am stationary to just stop stanza from reading it to me and read it the old fashioned way (i.e. visually read it).

I have a really easy feature

I have a really easy feature that you could implement, that would help a lot of people out a lot. As you know, there is currently no way to bulk transfer files onto the ipod touch. However, with ssh on jailbroken devices, it is only all too easy. And of course, Stanza could then import them into it's library. So, I ask that you make stanza automatically add all new epub files in, say,
/private/var/mobile/Applications/2EAC70B5-F244-41BA-B83F-ECA2F12B9C5B/Documents/Downloads
This would be easy for you, and would let those with jailbroken devices utilize their full potential, without breaking the sdk agreement.

Thanks.

iPhone apps can bulk upload

iPhones can bulk upload using SyncDoc. I have a couple apps that sync via SyncDoc

Mark books as Unread

I've recently installed the GREAT app, and added a few books, but in adding the books and learning how to use the app, I have now 5+ books that are showing in the Latest Reads, whereas I really only have started reading just one. It would be great to be able to mark a book as unread.

Add Ebook Wish List Feature

Kudos...
I just love this app. I own over 350 ebooks and have tried the other readers and they just can not compare to Stanza.
Suggestions:
1. The fictionwise and stanza.fictionwise ebook stores provide each account with a wish list. Please add the "Wish List" to the online catalog items of each store and port the data from them to a pre-defined "Wish List" Collection.
2. Allow a user to add additional ebooks to the Stanza for the iPhone "Wish List" Collection through the online catalog browsing on the book page that shows (buy print book from amazon)
3. Provide the ability to purchase ebooks from the apps "Wish List" colleciton.

Keep up the good work!
Thanks!

Please add auto-scroll

Please add auto-scroll and thank you for the otherwise wonderful app!

Page animation

Great reader! You should charge for this thing.

Would like to have a left to right page turn animation, instead of the slide animation, which would be more like a real book. Also, sometimes
when i tap the right side, the page turns left. This is quite frustrating. I think its reading a small slide in my finger.

keep up the good work!

One more comment about the

One more comment about the page turn animation. Could you make it possible to slide up instead of to the left? I've noticed that the eReader slide up animation is easier on my eyes. They're already moving up to the top of the page and the animation just feels more natural. When I'm moving my eyes up and also watching the text scroll in from the right it gets a little tiring.

You can either swipe your finger to turn pages, or else tap on either side. You can also change the behavior of the side taps (or disable them altogether) by selecting the settings item in the toolbar and selecting the controls tab.

Could you provide an option

Could you provide an option for top/bottom hot spots to turn the page instead of just left/right? Top/Bottom is easier to use with either hand...

Dictionary Pronunciation

Love the new dictionary feature ... so can we now have audio pronunciation of the highlighted word ... :-) ??

Book descriptions

Hi Stanza folks

On the desktop client of Stanza, there is a field for the book's description. I can't find that field on the iphone. It'd be great to have it available, so when you are looking through your library you can remind yourself.

A suggestion: a tap on the book in coverflow mode could reveal the description: just like turning over a paperback.

No idea how you'd do it in the list view.....

Thanks

Page Turner Corner Reverse Preference

Love the product. I have one request, I have VERY small hands and also arthritis in my right arm. As a result, I hold the iPhone in my left hand, and tap using my thumb. Unfortunately, my hands are so small it is hard for me to reach across the phone to the right hand side to tap and advance the page. I'm constantly having to lift my right arm to tap, which is painful.

If there was a preference in settings that let me "reverse" the tap advance from the right to the left side of the screen that would solve the problem. Or even let the user designate "advance" and "back" tap screen points by bringing up a 6 dot matrix and setting it.

Anyway, I'm having a blast reading everything from Harlequins to "The Count of Monte Cristo"! Great to be able to rediscover the classics without carrying around a heavy book! Thank you

You can specify the meaing of

You can specify the meaing of the left and right taps under the Controls part of Settings. I personally have both set to page forward, and use a swipe to go backwards.

Swipes for page turning?? How to?

You're able to have both taps and swipe working for page turning?? I don't see that as an option. In fact, I don't see an option to use swipes at all for page turning.

The only swipe choice in settings that I've found is vertical swipe for Ignore or brightness.

Oh, I get it! There are no setting controls for left/right swipes; they're on by default.

Hmm... I'll have to try that as I, too, would prefer the one handed operation, but end up using two.

I found that I like setting

I found that I like setting both left and right taps as page forward. If I need to go backward I then use a swipe.

Make Bookmarked books visible

I have a few books that I've bookmarked, and I'd like Stanza to help me remember which ones. Currently, I have to stop reading and put the books into a collection and hope that I consult the collection before cleaning up the bookshelf. Instead, I'd like the book lists to visibly show which books I have bookmarked (and will have the same requests for when you get notes :) [perhaps modifying the current icon thingys, or adding another--just some way to let me know not to delete this book]

Thanks,
Dave

navigating large collections

Hello,

Having a way to navigate large collections of hundreds of books would be nice. A scroll bar would work great.
