The New York Times: Stanza: “The iPhone or iPod Touch can act as an electronic book reader.”
— Tip of the Week: Turn Your iPhone Into an e-Book
It is unknown at this time whether Stanza will support Linux. We are still considering the feasibility of supporting the platform. Note: it has been reported that Stanza has been run successfully on Linux in virtualization environments such as VirtualBox.

Stanza on netbooks?
Will Stanza run on a netbook like the HP 311 Mini Note?
Please advise,

Stanza on Linux
Please consider a native Linux application. For now, I am using Calibre on Linux(Ubuntu), with Stanza on Windows XP under VirtualBox.
Ubuntu Linux version please
Another home non-techie user, who has used with great ease ubuntu linux for over 2 years now, eagerly awaits the linux version. I hate having to use a second Windows computer solely because you can only adjust ipod touch settings through itunes, I'm not going to use Windows to upload books to it as well.
Support for a Linux version
I second the plea for a Linux version, Linux is my OS of choice, in fact if the power supply of my laptop hadn't malfunctioned (forcing me to use a friend Windows Vista Laptop) I wouldn't have discovered your excellent application. As Java seems to be your support, the effort to port it to Linux would likely not be too disproportioned in return for a highly competent and vocal community adopting your product !
Besides, by supporting Linux, you show that your software is one of those reference, here to stay, since it was ported to every major platform (Linux is really major now, especially counting the smaller devices that run on a variant).
Stanza on Linux
Running Stanza in a virtual environment such as Virtualbox has little or nothing to do with running it on Linux. The virtual environment is likely running one of the supported Operating Systems within it. In this case I suspect it's running Windows within it.
Linux Please
I have a netbook with Ubuntu Linux. My desktop uses Linux too. I am a Linux user. Not my main OS, it is my ONLY OS. A linux app for uploading to the Stanza iPhone would be great. Bookshelf's uploading app runs on java (no matter what OS you use). But Stanza is much better than Bookshelf. I would love to see a Desktop app for Linux. Thanks!
Linux Version
+1 Would love a Linux version! Like a commenter before; I have a netbook (Linux), a macbook (Media stuff) and an iPhone. To have Stanza accross all thee would be awesome!
Is the portability issue simply an SWT compatibility problem?
clearly the desktop app runs under Java, so why not to release it as a JAR?
we (knowledgeable folks who refuse to use WinDoze) can figure out how to make it run under Linux.
Trying to run it under Wine causes an
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x7d3f6f09, pid=32, tid=34
but I guess that's only because the Windoze installer installs a Win JRE that's not the right one.
So, whilst I appreciate you guys being busy on other Platforms, it would be good if you could let us figure a way to run a GREAT application under a GREAT OS :-)
Desktop solution for Linux
In the meantime, you can use Calibre. It's a free download for Linux: you can use it to host your existing epub files or convert to epub from another format, then share your library over your home WiFi network and upload into Stanza on your iPhone.
Works great!
Ubuntu version
This is another vote to create a version for Ubuntu. Thank you.
linux support
please, please, please!
Would love to run Stanza on my ubuntu netbook and desktop
Please!
A lot of netbooks run on Linux ...
... thus a good ebook reader for the linux platform is really needed. And Stanza would be the preferred one! By the way: Ubuntu (Debian) is the most used Linux environment on ebooks and ultra portables ;-)
Add One More
Linux support would be key! Holding breath.
Please support Linux
It is my understanding that the Macintosh operating system is very similar to Linux.
Given that supporting Linux is not an unreasonable expectation.
ditto
linux version please
Linux Version Please
Adding my name to the list for a Linux Version. Thanks.
Adding my name to the list
I also would love to see a Linux version of this software.
Do you have any specifics on
Do you have any specifics on how this was done? I am using VirtualBox with WinXP installed and have installed the desktop app, but I still can not transfer my books to the stanza iphone app.
Wise products should have at least a Linux version
Come on!
Don't you know that wise products always have a Linux version?
It is part of the way of saying that you are one-of-a-kind!
Besides, after programming for Linux you'll have a shift in your programming fashion...
Do it!
It's time to get with the times
There are three major operating systems, not two.
1. Linux
2. Mac
3. Windows
It is time to develop applications for all three.
Me too please
Linux version would rock :)
Note: Does not seem to run
Note: Does not seem to run under WINE
Running under Wine (kubuntu 9) give Java NPE

Wine installed the Gecko engine to handle HTML. Not sure why that did not resolve starting IE.
In any case, Stanza is clearly a Java program running in Eclipse's portable library. Should not require much to get it running on Linux.
I would like a linux support too!
Congrats for your great app!
Please, consider developing a GUI for linux. It should be rather easy through wifi using Java or GTK, for instance.
Thank you for your consideration!
I too would love to see
I too would love to see Stanza available on linux, if only so that I could transfer PDFs to my iPhone.
Stanza on Linux
Hi There,
I think with the increasing number of Linux devices out there, it is only logical to release Stanza for Linux. Linux's market penetration is nearing that of the apple Mac. It also runs on countless netbooks, such as the eeePC and the Dell Inspiron Mini9. Therefore, please consider porting Stanza to Linux. You may find some very appreciative users there.
stanza for eeepc pleaze ;)
I would love to have stanza for linux to use with my eeepc :D
